There have been many 1st this season for Fort Cherry Head Coach Tanner Garry. But the one 1st that the young Coach will forever remember is his teams big win over the visiting Rochester Rams, who were previously unbeaten in section play. Trailing all game until mid 4th quarter Junior quarterback Maddox Truschel finally was able to crack a stingy Rams defense with back to back scores to seal an exciting 21-19 win. “Our goal was to drive the ball down the field, we felt we could win it, we just needed to make the plays to put us in this place. We settled down in the 2nd half they really didn’t do anything different from what they started out doing we just made adjustments at the half and started to make plays.” Said Coach Tanner Garry “I’m proud of the kids they were resilient, they never quit they just keep playing, this group has been through a lot the past couple years, we are rebuilding but they believe in us.”. Said Garry, “It’s a great win for the program, Rochester runs what they are good at, they are good at what they do, they don’t change they have tough kids. We have been every game, but mistakes have hurt us, those are the growing pains we talk about, but we are trying to do things the right way, the kids are receptive and supportive, they respond. We adjusted some things at half, we adjusted sets that we couldn’t run in the 1st half, Truschel  just settled down – he’s a gamer he stepped it up tonight for us.” The person on the receiving end of many of Truschel’s big throws was junior receiver Noah Haskins. The 6’4 receiver stepped up making crucial catches to keep drives alive when his team needed it the most “he’s only in his second year ever playing, but he makes big plays for us, and he did again tonight, these guys have a great supporting cast around them, he’s only going to get better with playing time.” With upcoming games against Union, then a season ending game against Cornell this Fort Cherry team has the opportunity to keep building for what many consider a very bright future of Ranger football.
