District VII Conference Play from Offutt Field

Last Meeting: 9/25/20 Greensburg 28 @ Indiana 56

Indiana visited Greensburg Friday night with both teams looking for a 4-1 start to the season. Indiana hasn’t won four games in a season since 2014. Greensburg Salem hasn’t had a winning season since 2011. The Golden Lions were able to capitalize on field advantage, turnovers and penalties to pull away in the second half for a 35-14 win.

Indiana got the ball first and went three and out. A bad snap over the punters head gave Greensburg the ball at the Indians two yard line. J.C. Wallish IV crashed in from two yards out to give the Golden Lions a 7-0 lead.

The Indians second drive lasted three plays again. Quarterback Devin Flint threw deep down the right sideline and was picked off by Cody Rubrecht. There appeared to be a mix up on the play as the Indians had two receivers in the area. Rubrecht made a great leaping interception and raced back into Indiana territory. The Indians were called for a personal foul on the return, the first of ten accepted penalties. The Golden Lions started at the Indiana 22 and overcame one fourth down conversion before throwing incomplete on fourth and goal from the five. The Indians would now drive 95 yards all on the ground and aided by two Greensburg penalties. The big plays were a defensive offside on fourth and two and a Zach Herrington run. Flint capped the drive with a short touchdown run. The Indians faked the extra point but the pass failed and the Golden Lions retained a 7-6 lead.

The second quarter had both teams scoring once and a series on penalties on both teams. Indiana punted once, while Greensburg threw a pick and had the half run out on them. The Golden Lions scored first on a 64 yard drive capped by Hayden Teska first of three touchdown passes. Rashad Canady caught the pass in the flat and scored. The Indians drove 68 yards with Flint scoring his second and getting the two pointer to tie the game just before the half.

The Golden Lions came out in the second half and put the game away early. On the second play of the half Teska hit Jayden Stevens in the right flats, he broke several tackles on the way to a 70 yard touchdown reception. On Indiana’s first possession of the second half, they fumbled, one of five turnovers on the night.

The ball got kicked back from midfield to the Indians 25. Four plays later on fourth and 15, Teska hit Rubrecht for a touchdown down the left sideline.

The Indians final chance slipped away minutes later. Flint raced 56 yards for an apparent touchdown. But a personal foul away from the play brought the play back. Two plays later Flint left the game for good with bruised ribs. The Indians would fumbled it away again. But the Golden Lions went four and out failing on fourth down.

The Indians started the fourth quarter driving into Greensburg territory but turned it over on a fumble again. Rubrecht would take over at quarterback to run the Wildcat offense. The Golden Lions went 69 yards for the score. The last 47 on a Canady run. The game would end that way. The final score Greensburg 35 Indiana 14.
