Hall of Champions: District 7 (WPIAL)

Here are the teams from District 7 (WPIAL) who have made it to the PIAA title game and their overall record in the championships.

[table id=35 /]

The biggest district in the state would be expected to have the most titles and appearances in the title game, and even though District 7 has been dominant at times, the results have been mixed.  70 appearances with 34 championships by the current members is impressive, but it is below .500.  Five teams have won three or more titles with Clairton’s last run of four straight putting them at the top of the list.  Expect a team from District 7 to be in one of the title games in 2014.  There has never been a year since the inception of the state championships where at least one team hasn’t been in the title game.

District 7 title game notes:

  •  1992 is the only year a District 7 team didn’t win at least one state title.
  • With North Catholic’s title last season, 19 current District 7 teams have won titles.  Three more won titles under the District 7  banner (Farrell, Perry Traditional & Wilmington), but now play in different districts.
  • Woodland Hills and Blackhawk have the most appearances in the title game without a title (3).
