WPIAL AAAA Greater Allegheny Conference

Last Meeting 9/11/15 @ Hampton 32-27

It took Hampton an entire half to get things going as a game Indiana team was able to stay close for two quarters. The Indians took the opening kickoff and drove 81 yards for their only lead of the game. Junior running back Zach Herrington score from 11 yards out. All 81 yards came 9n the ground and it took over 1/2 the quarter.  Hampton would answer right back going 75 yards in just over four minutes. They threw just one pass, a big third down conversion. Senior receiver Gage Galuska scored from 5 yards out. Indiana also started their second drive from their own 19. They made it into Talbot territory as the first quarter ended. The Indians converted a fourth and one from Hampton’s 49. The next series of plays changed the momentum of the game. Indiana would lose 27 yards. They had two costly penalties and were sacked on third and long. The games first punt would give Hampton a lead they would never give up. Sophomore Benny Hasselrig fielded the punt and raced 61 yards untouched down the left sideline. One play after the kickoff Indiana loss junior back Fox Van Leer to a major leg injury. Indiana was forced to punt again. Hampton drove to the Indiana 13 before being stopped on downs and we went to the half.

Hampton looked like a different team in the second half. They took the opening kickoff and went right down the field. The Talbots scored twice on the 55 yard drive. Galuska scored on a long run which was called back due to a penalty. Quarterback Matt DeMatteo scored from 37 yards out on the very next play. Now the Talbots defense came alive. The Indians lost seven yards on three plays and punted. Hampton would drive 50 yards for their second touchdown of the quarter. Once again they scored twice. Junior Michael Witherup caught a pass in the flats and raced 50 yards for a TD. But wait, a block in the back. Not problem for Hampton. The Talbots went back to the run. Jacob Premick capped the drive with a 10 yard touchdown run. Indiana didn’t give up. The Indians drove 80 yards chewing up the rest of the third quarter and scored seconds into the fourth. Junior quarterback Devin Flint who is a pleasure to watch scored from eight yards out. Hampton would score twice more overcoming penalties on both drives. The Talbots had two mor scoring plays of over 35 yards. The second coming after an Indiana fumble. The Talbots have a chance at the playoffs and will need to win next week at home against Knoch. Indiana will host Mars in the season finale.
