Jefferson, PA – Last week was a rough week for both the Jefferson-Morgan Rockets (8-1, 5-1) and the Avella Eagles (6-3, 3-3). The Rockets were rolling through their schedule with a perfect record and ran into a determined Bentworth Bearcats team. The Avella Eagles had one loss on the season but were unable to overcome a tough Carmichaels Mighty Mikes team. The Rockets still have an opportunity to share the Tri-County South conference title. While the Eagles were hoping to keep their, now slim, playoff hopes alive.
However, it was the Rockets that took control of this game early and made quick work of the visiting Eagles on homecoming night to the delight of the home crowd by a score of 47-6.
The Rockets were without their starting quarterback junior Triton Farabee, who suffered an injury early in last week’s game. Senior Deakyn Dehoet was tapped to make his first start at quarterback. Dehoet accounted for five touchdowns in the game, four of which were on the ground with runs of 49, 41, 17, and 15 yards, respectively. In addition to the runs, Dehoet also found senior Seth Fox on a 35 yard completion for a touchdown in the second quarter. Senior John Woodward also found pay dirt in the second quarter with a 45 yard run. Dehoet finished the night with 153 yards on 8 carries, in addition to the 4 touchdowns and 5-9 for 71 yards and a touchdown pass through the air. Woodward finished with 9 carries for 124 yards to go along with his touchdown.

Jefferson-Morgan led 33-0 at the half. With a running clock early in the second half, the Rockets would find the end zone two more times, with the last score coming on a 4th and goal from the 17 yard line from sophomore Nick Demaske.

The Eagles avoided the shutout with a 14 yard touchdown run by senior Noah Kimberland in the fourth quarter.
The Jefferson-Morgan victory sets up a key clash against the California Trojans (8-1, 6-0). The Bentworth Bearcats (7-2, 5-1) will also be keeping a close eye on that game as they travel to Avella. Avella will look to end their two game losing streak and get back into the playoff discussion for the regular season finale.
