The Greater Latrobe Wildcats beat the Norwin Knights in a high scoring 42-28 win at Norwin Stadium on Sep. 6th.
The game started off on a strong note for the Wildcats with a touchdown by Penn-State recruit Alex Tatsch and a made kick allowed Latrobe to go up 7-0 with 10:25 remaining in the first quarter.

The Knights attempted to answer back with a carry for a first down by sophomore Giovanni Rothrauff but an incompleted pass gave Latrobe back the ball.
Norwin did their best to stop Latrobe from putting any more touchdowns on the scoreboard, and they did for a little with a few tackles by Jackson Huss but it was not enough to stop Wildcat QB and Marshall recruit, John Wetzel, from scoring a rushing touchdown, lengthening the Latrobe lead 14-0 with 5:26 left in the first quarter.

Despite being down 14-0 the Knights were not ready to give up which they showed through two good runs by Jake Knight, one of which resulted in a first down. But this was not enough to hold onto the ball and they were forced to give it back to Latrobe. With Latrobe back on offense they were able to run the ball, which Norwin was not able to keep up with, allowing the Wildcats to get another first down to end the first quarter.
The Knights came out to the second quarter strong with good tackles by Jake Sincak and a sack by Huss. These combined to give Norwin the ball which they turned into a first down by junior wide receiver Cooper Wilson. Another first down allowed the Knights to get close enough for junior QB Tristyn Tavares to rush in for a touchdown, finally putting Norwin on the scoreboard with a score of 14-7 in the Wildcat’s favor with 4:56 left in the second.

Latrobe quickly answered with two quick first downs by Tatsch but a false start call along with a tackle by Evan Archer put the Wildcats at fourth and three. They went for it and Tatsch was able to score his second touchdown of the night putting Latrobe up 21-7 heading into halftime.

Despite being down coming out of the half, Norwin came out of the gate strong with a sack by Archer and a fumble by Latrobe, allowing the Knights to get the ball back and for Tavares to rush for his second touchdown of the night making the score 21-14 in Latrobe’s favor with 10:10 left in the third quarter.

The Wildcats did not let this Norwin momentum continue however with firsts down by Wetzel and Tatsch allowing Latrobe to advance to third and goal but an incomplete pass forced a fourth down. The Wildcats went for it, allowing Tatsch to rush in his third touchdown of the night and strengthen his team’s lead to 28-14.

Two injury timeouts, one from each team delayed the resume of play after the touchdown. A sack from junior Wildcat Chris Cochran helped to get Latrobe the ball back but they were not able to improve their score in the third quarter. Heading into the final quarter of football with Latrobe on offense, a first down catch by Andy Tatsch gave Latrobe the ball on the first and goal which allowed for senior running back Brady Prohovic to score a touchdown making the score 34-19 with 9:13 left.
