Death, taxes and Landan Stevenson. The three constants of life as a Tri-County South football player in 2022. The latest victim to find this out? The California Trojans.

The California Trojans came into 2022 as one of the favorites to win the conference, and had a spotless record until a six turnover outing a week ago against Monessen put their title hopes on the ropes. A week later, Mapletown put them in the grave.

The Maples offense came to play early and often, driving down the field on their opening offensive drive, capped off with Landan Stevenson finding the endzone from 10 out.

California was quick to respond. Jake Layhue found Caden Powell on a 45 yard pass that could have been taken back for a pick six had the ball been thrown milliseconds later. Powell found only green grass behind him to pull the Trojans within a point.

From that point on, the Maples offense was unstoppable. A field goal on the following drive was all the Trojans could hold back before the dam broke. Landan Stevenson scampered in for his second score of the night with two minutes left in the half.

The Maples defense made a quick stop, then Brody Evans found the endzone again for the Maples to balloon the lead to 18 points before halftime.

In the second half it was more of the same. Landan Stevenson added to his TD total before the Maples recovered on the kickoff. After penalties pushed the Maples back to near midfield, Stevenson found Brock Evans down the sidelines to put Mapletown up 38-6 in the early 3rd.

Another TD run by Stevenson and a delayed handoff to Evan Griffin landed the Maples at a 52-20 finish, and put the Trojans conference championship hopes underneath a pile of maple leaves.

What’s Next: Mapletown will hit the road once more when they visit Jefferson-Morgan next week while California will look to rebound in Rogersville against West Greene.
