In small school high school football what it is often the case is whoever has the best player on the field during any given game usually wins. In Fort Cherry’s Week 3 Black Hills conference opener, that was certainly the case.

Friday night, Matt Sieg and a young Fort Cherry squad took down regional rival Chartiers Houston behind a four touchdown performance from the freshman. That makes a total of nine for Sieg in just the past two weeks.

The Rangers were quick to put points on the board, as Matt Sieg drove the Rangers 32 yards to the goal line on the second play of the game and followed it up with a one yard dive into the endzone.

The Chartiers Houston offense struggled early on in the game, giving Fort Cherry prime opportunities to put points on the board. The Bucs punted at midfield on their first offensive drive. On the Rangers second drive, Sieg again found paydirt, methodically driving down the field and shifting his way in for a two touchdown score. The Rangers never looked back.

The Bucs nearly caught momentum in a bottle, with an 82 yard break from Jake Mele that brought Chartiers within 7. A long Fort Cherry drive later, Ethan Faletto put the Rangers up by 14 again, and this time it would stay there.

Sieg wasn’t finished with an already heroic first half. With less than a minute on the clock, Seig bolted down the sideline to put the Rangers up by three touchdowns and the game effectively out of reach for the Buccaneers.

In the second half, the Rangers added on to their lead. Nathan Heirendt found the endzone halfway through the third quarter, slicing his way through the Chartiers Houston defense.

Jake Mele added to his touchdown total, closing the gap to 35-14, however Matt Sieg wasn’t done just yet. With 1:22 left in the 3rd quarter, Sieg shook off Bucs tacklers to notch his fourth score of the game, ballooning the score to 41-14. The score would stay there the rest of the night.

What’s Next?: The Rangers will host second ranked Bishop Canevin next week while Chartiers Houston will look to rebound against Burgettstown at home.
