McGuffey Defeats Washington 7-6 for first time since 2009 @carter_newcome

The McGuffey Highlanders defeated I-70 rival Washington High 7-6 to kick off the 2020 football season. The Highlanders were led by a stout defense who shut down the high powered Prexies offense. Both teams struggled to get their seasons going in the first half as neither team could put together any sort of drive. After heading to the half at a scoreless tie. McGuffey opened up the scoresheet with. 3-yard touchdown run from Kyle Brookman. McGuffey would hold the 7-0 lead until the 2:40 mark in the 4th quarter when Tayshawn Levy punched it in from a yard out making it 7-6. However, Wash High elected to go for the conversion and did not get it. On the ensuing drive McGuffey was forced to punt and gave Wash High one last chance. The Wash High offence drove down into McGuffey territory, but fumbled the football in the backfield it was would be recovered by the Highlanders. The would go on to kneel out the clock and defeat Washington for the first time since 2009 and the for the first time in Ed Dalton’s tenure.
