It was all McGuffey from the get-go.

Chartiers-Houston came into McGuffey Friday night attempting to take down the Highlanders, but McGuffey was just too much to handle as they went on to comfortably win 56-0.

The Buccaneers started with the first possession, but that did not last very long.

A fumble early in the first quarter by Chartiers-Houston gave McGuffey easy field advantage at the Buccaneer 13-yard line, and a 13-yard rushing touchdown from sophomore running back Kyle Brookman gave the Highlanders an early 7-0 lead.

A quick three and out from Chartiers-Houston gave another opportunity for McGuffey to take the advantage. The Highlanders drove from their own 49-yard line and senior running back Mckinley Whipkey would eventually take it into the endzone, making it 14-0 with 7:34 remaining in the first quarter.

Another 1-yard rushing touchdown from McGuffey gave the Highlanders a 21-0 lead not long after.

Brookman increased the score even more with a rushing touchdown, putting up McGuffey 28-0 with 2:38 left in the first quarter.

Chartiers-Houston really had trouble on both sides of the ball. The offense was stagnant, and the defense could barely stop the run game.

In fact, all of McGuffey’s touchdowns came from rushes, and Brookman had three of those touchdowns.

“I just want to thank my O-line,” said Brookman, “They have been the stars of our offense this year, they’re doing so well.”

The score at halftime was 49-0, and a running clock in the second half would end the misery quicker for the Chartiers-Houston Buccaneers. The last touchdown came in the third quarter when the Highlanders sneaked in a 1 yarder. The final score was 56-0 in favor of McGuffey.

McGuffey head coach Ed Dalton was pleased with the efficiency of his team.

“We came out physical, and our line is probably the difference in a lot of the games we play,” said Dalton.

For the first time since 1994, the McGuffey Highlanders have outrightly secured the 2A Century Conference title.

“We’ve made a lot of improvement,” said Dalton. “Obviously, our goals are beyond this, but this is a great first step.”

Next week, McGuffey plays Beth Center in a conference matchup. Dalton said that these two schools play each other often in athletics, so he knows what’s coming.

“We know we’ll get their best,” said Dalton.
