Friday night was a match up we have seen before in conference play, but this year that is no more. Neshannock and Mohawk played for their first time last night as non section foes. Neshannock moved down to 1A in the WPIAL after the 2023 season as Mohawk stayed in 2A. The game started off very fast for Mohawk as with their first possession of the game Junior QB Bobby Fadden ran the ball in for a Mohawk touchdown.
Neshannock would not sit back though. The very next drive for the Lancers was a 71 yard touchdown pass by QB Jino mozzocio to Ethan Beaman. This game was back and fourth as the next Mohawk drive was a handoff to the warriors Jackson Chapman for the touchdown. Heading in to halftime Mohawk had the lead 30-21. The Lancers coming out for the 2nd half were very hungry for the ball as Dom Cubellis picked off Bobby Fadden for the Neshannock pick six touchdown.
The lancers had some mishaps in this game and a big one was ball security. Senior OL/DL Tony Perrotta had this to say about the lancers fumbles. “One weak point in our game was our ball security/turnovers.” The Lancers in the second half caught up to Mohawk and really kept Fadden in check. In the fourth quarter Neshannocks defense was really causing trouble for Mohawk. To end Mohawks final drive of the game and put the icing on the cake Jr Ashton Allison picked off Fadden to end the contest with a final score of 42-37.
Senior Tony perrotta had this to say about his teams performance “I feel like once we started doing our assignments and reading our keys,we were able to keep pressure on Fadden and Mohawk.” Neshannock heads to Union Area next week for a battle with the Scotties. Mohawk will have their home opener against the Laurel Spartans.
