In a game full of penalties and turnovers North Catholic found a way to get a 37-14 Week 0 win over Serra Catholic. “You could definitely tell it was a Week 0 game, it did feel like one of longest games I’ve ever coached in my entire life” said Coach O’Shea.

North Catholic got the ball to start the game and thanks to a good kick return they started in Serra Catholic territory but despite that they went three and out and punted the ball away. Serra Catholic started out at their own 20 yard line. On the third play the ball was fumbled and North Catholic recovered.

North Catholic had another great chance to get on the board starting at the Serra Catholic 19 yard line. But again for a second time penalties stalled the drive and Serra Catholic’s defense came up with another big stop.

Serra Catholic’s second drive started at their own 17 yard line and again on the third play the ball was fumbled and North Catholic recovered, but on the first play of that drive North Catholic fumbled it right back to Serra Catholic. “You have the field position , you have the short field and you don’t score that’s a huge victory for the other football team, but we were kinda able to get through it” said Coach O’Shea.

All night Serra Catholic struggled on offense especially in the first half. The first points of the game came on a safety which gave North Catholic a 2-0 lead midway through the first quarter. That would be the score at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter North Catholic started to take control of the game. The first touchdown came off of one of several Serra Catholic turnovers. The drive started at the Serra 10 yard line and on the first play Samir Ware scored on a 10 yard run.

Serra Catholic got the ball yet again and again they went three and out. Serra Catholic didn’t have a first down the entire first half. North Catholic got the ball back in Serra Catholic territory and on the third play Jason Siket scored on a 33 yard run to make the score 16-0 midway through the second quarter. “We started putting points on the board, and then it worked out okay” said Coach O’Shea. At halftime North Catholic led 16-0.

Serra Catholic got the ball to start the second half but again they were unable to move the ball. A little later North Catholic put a big drive together to really take command of the game. Jason Siket found Gavin Kamody for a 33 yard touchdown, that was the second of 2 big throws on the drive. Siket was one of the key players in North Catholic’s win he was 4 of 7 for 84 yards in the game. “Jason has led us through 2 undefeated JV seasons he’s very talented, he managed the game very very well, and made no mistakes” said Coach O’Shea.

On the next drive Serra Catholic finally got a first down and later in the drive scored their first points of the game. The key play that set the touchdown up was a Quadir Stribling 41 yard pass to Elijah Ward. Michael Schanck finished off the drive on a 9 yard run. That made the score 23-6 North Catholic.

On the following drive North Catholic answered right back. They just marched right down the field on a couple of big plays. The drive was finished off on a 4 yard run by Chase Arrington. That made the score 30-6 late in the third.

In the fourth quarter added another touchdown making the score 37-6. Serra Catholic added a second score in the game making the final 37-14. “We managed to have a pretty good Week 0 game, both teams will build off if it” said Coach O’Shea.

Next week North Catholic hosts Shady Side Academy and Serra Catholic travels to Seton LaSalle.
