The Penn-Trafford Warriors beat the Plum Mustangs 33-14 thanks to sophomore QB Cody Yacamelli and a strong second half of action.
“The win felt good tonight, I mean, we started off slow, but we picked up in the second half and took the game away,” stated Yacamelli, who scored all of the P-T TDs for the night.
The game, which took place at Plum’s stadium on Sept 26, started off with a 12-yard rushing TD by Yacamelli and an extra point made by sophomore kicker Jack Miller. This was Yacamelli’s first of four touchdowns on the night.

Plum’s kicker, Austin Kolankowski, scored the only other points of the first quarter with a 27-yard field goal.
The score stayed 7-3 in the Warriors’ favor through a slow second quarter filled with flags for both sides until a 21-yard field goal by Miller. Mustang kicker, Kolankowski, followed that with a 31-yard field goal of his own, shortening P-T’s lead to 10-6 to end the first half.
A Warrior offense that struggled in the first 24 minutes came out strong in the second half with a 28-yard rushing TD by Yacamelli less than four minutes into the quarter. Miller backed it up with the extra point, and P-T extended their lead to 17-6.
The Warrior defense continued to control a strong Plum offense with a controversial safety scored by P-T linemen Aiden McCaw following a tackle made by senior Landyn Stikkel.

“I thought it was a touchdown, but apparently it was not, but I am just happy I got it,” stated McCaw following the game.
Now up 19-6 P-T headed into the final quarter with more energy than shown all game. This was proven with an interception for Warrior senior Nico Casciato. Plum had not given up yet, though, as they boasted the interception with their own the very next play by junior Tyler Baleno.
Yacamelli was not done finding the endzone for the night yet as he scored his fourth TD of the game with 3:46 left in the fourth. Miller made the extra point, extending their lead to 33-6 and sealing Plum’s fate.
The Mustangs attempted to rally hope with a 30-yard TD pass from Semaj Robinson, thrown by Antonio Hanzlik. Robinson scored the 2-point conversion, shortening P-T’s lead to 33-14 and ending the game.
Penn-Trafford will take on Gateway at home next week, while Plum will stay at home for a matchup against North Hills.
“We can not have the little mistakes, and as a team we have to work together,” stated P-T’s Stikkel when asked about next week’s game. “That is going to be a big game, they are coming to our place and we are excited.”
