In an energy-filled stadium at Canon-McMillian High School, the Peters Township Indians secured a spot in the 5A WPIAL finals with a decisive 31-6 win over the Upper St. Clair Panthers. P-T will take on Pine-Richland next Saturday.
The game, which took place on Nov. 14, was a slow start for the Indians. With multiple dropped passes and easy mistakes, the pumped-up Panthers defense seemed to leave P-T looking puzzled and confused. USC, which was still on a high from last Friday when they upset Woodland Hills, seemed to have the momentum behind them.
This showed with a field goal from USC senior Jacobo Echeverria, putting the Panthers up 3-0 with 2:53 left in the first quarter.
At the beginning of the second quarter, P-T seemed to have started to find its groove with a TD by senior RB Cole Neupaver. The extra point was made by Anthony Maiello, and P-T would take the lead, a position they would be in for the rest of the game, 7-3.

Strong defenses from both teams did not allow more scoring until 1:50 left in the second quarter, when Indian senior and Villanova commit QB Nolan DiLucia found Pitt commit Reston Lehman for a TD. Maiello secured the extra point, and P-T extended their lead to 14-3 heading into the half.
Strong defenses would continue for both teams, allowing no score for either side in the third quarter.
Heading into the final quarter, USC attempted to rally with a field goal by Echeverria with 11:52. This brought the scoreline to 14-6 in the Indians’ favor and seemed to bring hope to a Panther comeback. But it would be the last time they would add to their score that night.

P-T started to run away with the game with a second TD of the night by Neupaver. Maiello made the extra point, and the Indians now led 21-6.
Things continued downhill for the Panthers after they lost their starting QB, Ethan Hellmann, to an injury and were forced to sub in sophomore Josh Snyder.
The P-T defense was feeling the energy of the offense, which was shown by an interception for WR Lucas Rost with 9:13 left in the fourth quarter.
P-T turned this into an opportunity for Maiello to make a field goal and extend their lead to 24-6 with 4:47 left in the fourth quarter.

The Indians followed this up with a TD run by Mark Ripepi. Maiello made the extra point, extending the lead to 31-6. P-T would run out the rest of the clock, and they would win 31-6.

P-T will face Pine-Richland next Saturday at Acurisure Stadium for the 5A WPIAL finals. Last year, Pine-Richland beat them in the finals 20-9.
