PIAA gets hearing date for Aliquippa 4A to 5A case

The Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court has set a date of July 16 for a hearing to determine whether the PIAA will receive a stay in the PIAA vs Aliquippa case. Early this year Aliquippa was placed into the 5A classification. They appealed and then took their case to court. In May a Beaver County judge blocked the move from 4A to 5A imposed on the Quips football team due to the PIAA competitive balance rule. The PIAA is seeking to have that decision put on hold while it appeals the case.  In turn, the PIAA asked the Commonwealth for an expedited hearing date due to the proximity of the season. Heat conditioning begins on August 5.

The WPIAL released their schedules for the current two year cycle with Aliquippa in 5A, then after the May hearing they released them again with changes putting Aliquippa into 4A once again.  Should the commonwealth side with Aliquippa, this would make the third time the Quips avoided being moved up.
