Despite several mistakes Serra was able to cruise to an easy 40-10 victory over Seton LaSalle. The major part that kept Seton LaSalle off the scoreboard was Serra’s defense coming up big on multiple occasions. “We were pretty inconsistent, not the game we really wanted to play, but we’ll take the victory” said Coach Regus.

Seton LaSalle got the ball to start the game but went three and out. Serra started their first possession at their own 48 yard line. On the very first play of the drive Max Rocco completed a pass to Amire Spencer for a 52 yard touchdown pass. After the missed extra point the score was 6-0 Serra with 10:48 in the first quarter.

Seton LaSalle’s second drive started at their own 31 yard line. It was looking like a solid drive and even got into Serra Catholic territory. But once inside the 40 yard line the drive was ended with an interception.

Serra Catholic started their second possession on their own 33 yard line. On the third play of the drive the ball was fumbled and it was recovered by Seton LaSalle, that drive started with great field position at Serra’s 45 yard line. The drive didn’t last long because on the first play of the drive Serra came up with their second interception of the game.

The next drive didn’t start with good field position and it didn’t go far and when Serra went to punt it away the snap was mishandled and Seton LaSalle started at Serra’s 25 yard line. Another golden opportunity for Seton LaSalle and they still couldn’t get on the scoreboard but Serra’s defense stood tall. “They gonna fight, defense wins championships, that’s what they always say, our d is going to stand strong” said Coach Regus.

Serra’s next drive was looking like a very promising drive. The drive was 13 plays and traveled around 50 yards but once they got inside Seton LaSalle’s 20 yard line the drive stalled and it ended on a missed field goal.

On the following possession for Seton LaSalle another interception occurred on the third play of the drive. The ball was picked off by Pharoh Fisher and it was nearly returned for a touchdown but was ruled out at the 2 yard line. On the next play he finished off the drive on a 2 yard run. That made the score 13-0 with 8:18 left before half.

Later in the quarter Serra Catholic again extended their lead when Terrell Booth intercepted the ball and returned it 27 yards for a touchdown. So far this season Serra’s defense has been known to score touchdowns. They currently have a 4 game streak going with at least 1 defensive score. They have 6 overall on the season. “The defense has been scoring a lot this year, it’s a blessing, however you gotta do it” said Coach Regus. The score at half was 20-0 Serra.

Serra Catholic got the ball to start the second half and it was once again a long drive it got as far as the Seton LaSalle 14 yard line. After that the drive stalled and Serra turned the ball over on downs.

A little after the midway point of the third quarter Seton LaSalle finally got on the scoreboard on a big 52 yard run by Gabe Finale. That made the score 20-7.

On the next drive Serra responded with yet another long drive and this time it was finished off with a touchdown when Max Rocco completed a 10 yard pass to Jayvon Holt making it 27-7 with 57 seconds in the third quarter. Rocco had a solid game for Serra he was 12 of 26 for 214 yards.

Early on in the fourth quarter Seton LaSalle scored on a 42 yard field goal by Nick Cherry making the score 27-10. After that Serra had the final 2 scores of the game the first one being a pass from Max Rocco to Pharoh Fisher for 3 yards. The second was also finished by Fisher this time being a 1 yard run. In the second half Serra slowly found a rhythm on offense and that showed in the final quarter. “Things picked up, when you’re in the locker room, we tightened some things up, we just had to come out and put it to good use on the field” said Coach Regus.

Also noteworthy Machai Duetrieulle had 139 yards rushing for Serra. The final score ended up being 40-10 Serra Catholic which improves their record to 4-0 this season. Next week Serra travels to Carlynton and Seton LaSalle travels to Beaver.
