In what many called a showdown for the visiting Shenango Wildcats in the Big 7 Conference leading up to tonight’s game against Cornell. Shenango decided to to make a statement early as to why they are considered one of the best teams in single A football. Led by the rushing of Senior Reis Watkins, who had a school record 6 touchdown runs on the night, Shenango jumped out early and never looked back in their 68-7 win against the host Raiders. Watkins ended the night with over 195 yards rushing. “We knew we would be tested, we challenged our defense during the week to shut them down offensively and give us a chance to get in the groove when we had the ball. When asked about Shenango’s start this season Watkins replied “Everyone worked hard over the summer everyone has bought in to what coach and the staff want, everyone put the time in to get better. But I think when coach realized what we could be like running the ball and switched from the spread that’s when everything started to work.” Said sophomore running back Aaron Martin, who also had 2 touchdowns on the evening “We were prepared for this game – we were ready. It was excited to be part of this type of game, our oline does the job – they are the real deal, it’s great to run behind them.” With upcoming games with Burgettstown, then Northgate over the next two weeks Shenango has the opportunity to distance themselves from the rest of the pack before they face another showdown with OLSH at Shenango in three weeks.
