South Side Runs all over Mapletown 47-6

The South Side Rams defeated the previously undefeated Mapletown Maples 47-6 last Friday night.

South Side dominated time of possession, and just the game overall despite the very rainy wet weather.

Junior Ryan Navarra ran in for a one-yard touchdown to kick off the scoring midway through the first quarter.

Minutes later, South Side; then on the first pass of the game, threw a 35-yard touchdown. Senior QB Brody Almashy threw to senior Parker Statler.

Mapletown would go three and out on their first three possessions. They also had an answer for WPIAL leading rusher Landan Stevenson on defense.

The next score wouldn’t come until halfway through the second quarter. Navarra would run 35 yards to the house.

Mapletown would change up their game plan and begin to throw the ball. This was in part of Landan Stevenson exiting the game with an injury, which he never returned.

The South Side QB who is also a CB would pick off Mapletown QB Brody Evans with three minutes left in the first half.

However, no one would score before the end of the half. South Side to this point had 199 total yards of offense to Mapletown’s 31 total offensive yards. All of which were on the ground.

Mapletown would start off the third quarter with the football, however went three and out. On the punt, Navarra continued to be involved with his blocked punt which was returned for a touchdown.

The following drive Logan Smith would intercept Evans on a deep shot.

Following the interception, Ryan Navarra would rush for a 50-yard touchdown. His second rushing touchdown and third on the day.

Parker Statler would join the multi-touchdown party, when later in that quarter ran for a touchdown to extend the lead to 40 to nothing.

Navarra then gets involved defensively when he gets an interception at the Mapletown 39-yard line.

Following the interception, the third string fullback Mateja Pavlovich ran for a 23-yard touchdown to extend the lead by 47.

Mapletown would be able to get one drive going in the final minute of the game and get a touchdown, however it was too late.

South Side finished the day with 311 total offensive yards, and Mapletown finished with only 93 total offensive yards.

South Side with this win will advance to the WPIAL Semi Final round of the 1A bracket. They are set to play Bishop Canevin in the semifinals next week at Peters Township.
