It was a cold and rainy night in western Pennsylvania, but that didn’t stop the firework show that the McKeesport Tigers hosting the Thomas Jefferson Jaguars in a PIAA 4A top ten matchup.

The Tigers would strike first in this game with a Kanye Thompson touchdown run with six minutes left in the first quarter. Thomas Jefferson would answer back though with an impress drive of their own, which was capped off with a Joe Lekse one yard quarterback sneak to tie the game at seven. McKeesport would answer back quickly with it this time being Bobbie Boyd Jr. with his first of three touchdowns on the night to put the Tigers back in front late in the first quarter.

The Jaguars would answer back once again with yet another quarterback sneak from Joe Lekse. This time it was on a questionable fourth down call that the officials ruled a touchdown for Thomas Jefferson. The questionable call did not phase the Tigers though as on the ensuing kickoff Kanye Thompson would once again make the Jaguars pay as he returned the kick all the way for a touchdown making the score 21-14 McKeesport.

Just when it looked like McKeesport might pull away Mcclain Flinn came up with a huge interception for Thomas Jefferson returning it all the way to the one-yard line. Thomas Jefferson would tie the game with Joe Lekse’s third touchdown of the first half.

Kanye Thompson would open the second half scoring up with yet another long touchdown run making it 28-21 McKeesport before most fans got back to their seats from the concession stands. A huge McKeesport stop on defense would help set up Bobbie Boyd Jr. for his second touchdown of the night making it 35-21 Tigers late in the third quarter.

Thomas Jefferson would not give up however, as big-time freshman Elias Lippincott scored from three yards out to male it a one score game midway through the fourth quarter. Following a failed onside kick attempt, Bobbie Boyd Jr. would deliver the knockout blow with his third and final touchdown of the night as the McKeesport Tigers would go on to win this classic by a score of 42-28.

Bobbie Boyd Jr. ran for 227 yards and three touchdowns. In fact Boyd made such an impression that after the game Boyd would receive his first college offer to play at Division II Bluefield State. Kanye Thompson also added in a three-touchdown performance in a day that just happened to be Thompson’s 18th birthday.

The Tigers win set up a massive matchup with the Belle Vernon Leopards next week for not only the Big 8 Conference championship, but maybe even the number one seed heading into the WPIAL playoffs
