Friday afternoon I made my way to Pittsburgh to watch Uniontown battle Carrickin a game that had a very light crowd that at times was very vocal even after the game was out of control.
Uniontown would use a twenty-seven-yard run by Cameron Johnson and a thirteen-yard run from Braxton Swaney to set up a fourteen-yard power run from Maurice Jackson to go up 6-0. Grant Barcheck would connect on the point after kick making this a 7-0game, with 8:18 left in the opening quarter.
After quickly shutting down the Carrick offense the Red Raiders looked to have a twenty-four-yard touchdown run from Maurice Jackson but a holding call negated the score. Cameron Jackson would be rocked for a fourteen-yard loss when Tristian Taylor-Phillips and Omarion Noyer. Tyler Hawk would make a twenty-two-yard catch to end the big plays in the quarter.
Swaney would pick up thirty-five yards on two carries to set up a one-yard touchdown run from Evan Townsend but a flag thrown on the play went against Uniontown taking away the score. Fifty-three seconds later Townsend again scored from a yard out after the point after kick we had a 14-0 game.
Brendan Patton-Smothers was taken down by the Red Raiders Devin George for a loss of two from there the Carrick drive ended just a couple of plays later. Maurice Jackson again would go twenty-four yards for a score but once again a flag on the Red Raiders took the score away. Swaney would pick up twenty-two yards on two carries, with the second carry being a one-yard touchdown run, with another successful point-after kick we had a 21-0 game. Swaney ended the next Carrick drive with a pick.
Carrick came out on fire to start the second halfwit Rio Freeman taking the kickoff sixty-one-yards to the Uniontown seventeen-yard line, Rasod Woods connected with Tyron Beasley to set u his own three-yard touchdown run to make this a 21-6 game.
Devon Miles took the ensuing kickoff sixty-seven yards for the score after Barcheck made this a 28-6 game, with 9:02 showing on the clock.
Woods hit Tyrone Beasley for forty-eights yards all the way down to the Uniontown twelve-yard-line. But on the next play, Devon Miles picked Woods off to end the once promising-looking Carrick drive. Devin George picked up Twenty-four-yards followed by a twenty-three-yard touchdown run by Cameron Jackson making this a 35-6 game.
Woods hit Tyrone Beasley for a nice sixteen-yard pickup but seconds later Swaney picked off the Woods pass. One play later Maurice galloped in for a thirty-yard score, with the point after kick we had a 42-6 game.
Woods would find Tyrone Beasley for the games last touchdown with Hillary Spang nailing the point after kick making the final score 42-13. Maurice Jackson picked up forty-nine yards ending the big plays in this one.
I spoke with Braxton Swaney right after the game and asked him if this was his best game to date and he said one of them. I also asked him what made things so easy for him on the field today and he replied with I felt good.
