Big Plays Result in Big Win for the Rockets

Rogersville, PA – The Jefferson-Morgan Rockets (6-0, 3-0) have been rolling through the Tri County South for the past season and a half.  They have an active 10 game conference win streak.  The last time the Rockets suffered a conference loss was at the hands of the West Greene Pioneers (1-5, 1-2).  However, the outcome was drastically different this time around with the Rockets leaving Rogersville with a 40-6 victory. The Rockets jumped out early and often, scoring touchdowns on three of their first four offensive plays.

Star do it all player Deakyn Dehoet, made his mark early. Jefferson-Morgan’s first offensive play, quarterback Triton Farabee found the speedy receiver for a 40 yard touchdown pass. On the ensuing possession for the Pioneers, quarterback Joel Rizor found some running room and ripped off a 39 yard run. However, the Pioneers fumbled the ball and the Rockets recovered. Two plays later, running back John Woodward out raced and tiptoed the sideline to the endzone resulting in a 66 yard touchdown run. After a Pioneer punt, once again Farabee found a wide open Dehoet on a 73 yard pitch and catch for another score.

That was all the offense that the Rockets would need for the game, but they weren’t done. This time Dehoet took the snap directly and went off tackle, untouched and outran the Pioneer defense for 63 yards to pay dirt.

The Pioneer offense was not able to get much momentum against the stingy Rockets defense. Additionally, the Pioneer defense struggled to maintain the quick strike offensive attack from the Rockets.  Woodward scored the final two touchdowns of the half, a seven yard run and a 50 yard run around the end to complete a dominant half, as the Rockets went into the break up 40-0.

The Pioneers did manage to avoid the shutout when Rizor found wide receiver Brent Harris for an 11 yard touchdown catch, late in the fourth quarter.

The Rockets will look to continue their conference win streak at home next week against the Beth Center Bulldogs. While West Greene goes on the road to visit the Bentworth Bearcats.
