WPIAL PREVIEW: Steve Richey Previews the week 2 conference matchups

6A Quad County Conference:

Baldwin Highlanders (0-0, 1-0) at North Allegheny Tigers (0-0, 1-0):  This game was supposed to be a matchup between two teams that had their section openers postponed due to covid-19, however Baldwin has to postpone with covid-19 concerns.  Baldwin was able to pick a game up as they traveled to Hollidaysburg and defeated the Tigers by a score of 27-7.  Colton Brain threw for 310 yards and accounted for three touchdowns for the Highlanders.  North Allegheny was able to host Penn Hills as the Indians also had their game postponed due to covid-19.  The Tigers fell behind 6-0 but scored the final 27 points of the game on three rushing touchdowns and a 25-yard pick six.

Central Catholic Vikings (1-0, 1-0) at Norwin Knights (0-1, 0-1):  Central Catholic got off to a big start last week as they try to defend their WPIAL title.  Eddy Tillman ran for 197 yards as the Vikings defeated Canon-McMillan 45-17.  Norwin started their campaign with a 28-14 loss at home to Hempfield.  Dom Barca rushed for 100 yards and accounted for the Knights two touchdowns on runs of 1 and 46 yards.  Central Catholic won this matchup a year ago by the score of 28-14.

Mount Lebanon Blue Devils (0-0, 0-0) at Canon-McMillan Big Macs (0-1, 0-1):  Mount Lebanon will open their season and their first game was postponed due to covid-19.  Joey Daniels threw for 1,307 yards and 16 touchdowns last season.  Canon-McMillan was defeated in week one by defending WPIAL champions, Central Catholic, by a score of 45-17.  Ryan Angott led the way for the Big Macs with 111 yards rushing.  The Blue Devils beat the Big Macs 49-21 a year ago.

Seneca Valley Raiders (0-0, 0-0) at Hempfield Spartans (1-0, 1-0):  Seneca Valley was another team that had to postpone their opener due to covid-19.  Ethan West returns for the Raiders after leading the team in rushing (516 yards) and receiving (256 yards).  Hempfield got their season started off on the right foot with a 28-14 road win at Norwin.  The Spartans were led by Christian Zilli who threw for 144 yards, ran for 96 yards, and accounted for two touchdowns.  Seneca Valley defeated Hempfield 40-12 last season.

5A Allegheny Six Conference:

No conference games.

5A Big East Conference:

No conference games.

5A Northeast Conference:

No conference games.

4A Big Eight Conference:

Ringgold Rams (0-1, 0-1) at Laurel Highlands Mustangs (0-0, 0-1):  Ringgold started their campaign with a 49-26 loss at Trinity.  John Polefko scored two rushing touchdowns in the loss.  Laurel Highlands started their season with a non-conference 32-0 loss at Albert Gallatin.  The Mustangs defeated the Rams 42-13 last season.

Thomas Jefferson Jaguars (1-0, 1-0) at Trinity Hillers (1-0, 1-0):  Thomas Jefferson got their PIAA and WPIAL title defense off on the correct foot with a 52-0 defeat of West Mifflin.  Jake Pugh threw five touchdowns and Ian Hansen caught two of those.  Trinity also lit up the scoreboard in a 49-26 victory over Ringgold.  Micah Finley ran for 126 yards and accounted for three total touchdowns.  Drew Cain ran for 129 yards on five carries and scored two touchdowns.  The Jaguars beat the Titans 40-0 last season.

West Mifflin Titans (0-1, 0-1) at Belle Vernon Leopards (1-0, 1-0):  West Mifflin got off to a rough start with a 52-0 loss at home to Thomas Jefferson.  The Titans are ineligible for the 2020 playoffs due to using an ineligible player last season.  Belle Vernon got a massive win last week with a 20-0 triumph at McKeesport.  Devin Whitlock rushed for 224 yards on 18 carries and scored the first touchdown for the Leopards.  Belle Vernon defeated West Mifflin 40-7 last year.

4A Greater Allegheny Conference:

Hampton Talbots (0-1, 0-1) at Armstrong Riverhawks (1-0, 1-0):  Hampton traveled to Mars last week and were defeated 35-13.  Matt DeMatteo threw a touchdown pass, kicked the extra point, and was successful on two field goals.  Armstrong defeated Indiana 21-7 to get off on the right foot.  Cadin Olsen threw for 396 yards, three touchdowns, and a two-point conversion.  Jesse Hepler caught four passes for 129 yards and a touchdown.  The Talbots beat the Riverhawks by a score of 30-12 last season.

Indiana Little Indians (0-1, 0-1) at Plum Mustangs (1-0, 1-0):  Indiana traveled to Armstrong last week and lost by a score of 21-7.  Indiana’s only score came on a Devin Flint 38-yard run.  Plum held Greensburg Salem at 699 wins with a 36-13 win.  Reed Martin scored two touchdowns, including a 91-yard kick return, and kicked a 41-yard field goal.  Eryck Moore ran for 105 and had two touchdowns.

Knoch Knights (0-1, 0-1) at Greensburg Salem Golden Lions (0-1, 0-1):  Knoch was knocked around last week by Highlands by a score of 39-7.  J.J. Szebalski scored the only touchdown for the Knights on a 2-yard run.  Greensburg Salem lost in their quest for program win 700 by a score of 36-13 to Plum.  Alex Briggs ran for 120 yards on 20 carries and accounted for both touchdowns.

Mars Planets (1-0, 1-0) at Highlands Golden Rams (1-0, 1-0):  Mars is expected to be at the top of this conference in the end and they started with a convincing 35-13 win over Hampton.  Teddy Ruffner ran for 261 yards on 25 rushes and had four touchdowns (3, 29, 49, 40).  Highlands is also expected to compete with Mars for the top spot and got off to a good start by defeating Knoch 39-7.  Chadler Thimons threw for 261 yards and four touchdowns.  Brock White ran for two touchdowns and caught two touchdowns.

4A Parkway Conference:

No conference games.

3A Allegheny Seven Conference:

Derry Area Trojans (0-1, 0-1) at Deer Lakes Lancers (0-1, 0-1):  Derry was blown away at home in the battle of the trojans as North Catholic secured a 55-7 victory.  Derry’s only score came on a 48-yard touchdown pass from Nick Detore to Hunter Wack.  Deer Lakes also got off to a stinging start with a 29-7 loss to Freeport.  Derek Burk completed 11 of 26 passes for 158 yards in his first start as a freshman.  Derry defeated Deer Lakes 42-0 last year.

East Allegheny Wildcats (0-0, 1-0) at Burrell Buccaneers (1-0, 1-0):  East Allegheny is my pick to win the conference and they started out hot with a 42-0 non-conference win over Brownsville.  John DiNapoli threw for 125 yards and accounted for three total touchdowns.  Burrell escaped last week’s game at Valley with a 22-13 victory.  Caden DiCaprio ran the ball 30 times for 166 yards.

Valley Vikings (0-1, 0-1) at North Catholic Trojans (1-0, 1-0):  Valley was narrowly defeated 22-13 at home last week by Burrell.  Justin Hooper ran for an 8-yard touchdown and recovered a fumble on special teams to set up the Vikings next score.  North Catholic traveled to Derry and won the Trojan War by a score of 55-7.  Joey Prentice threw for 218 yards, threw four touchdowns, ran for 114 yards, and ran for two touchdowns in the victory.  Nick Maher caught four passes for 112 yards and two touchdowns.

3A Interstate Conference:

Brownsville Falcons (0-0, 0-1) at Elizabeth Forward Warriors (0-0, 0-0):  Brownsville started their season by losing a non-conference game, 42-0, at home to East Allegheny.  Elizabeth Forward had to postpone their game at Yough due to covid-19.

Southmoreland Scotties (0-1, 0-1) at South Allegheny Gladiators (0-1, 0-1):  Southmoreland hosted South Park last week and fell by a score of 33-23.  Zach Cernuto threw for 209 yards and one touchdown for the Scotties.  South Allegheny traveled to Mount Pleasant for their section opener and lost 21-14.  Antonio Epps scored on runs of 20 and 5 while rushing for 86 total yards but it was not enough for the Gladiators.

Yough Cougars (0-0, 1-0) at South Park Eagles (1-0, 1-0):  Yough won a non-section game, 29-6 over Chartiers-Houston, after their game with Elizabeth Forward was postponed due to covid-19.  Gamal Marballie ran for 256 yards for the Cougars.  South Park traveled to Southmoreland in week one and won 33-23.  Adam Johnson ran for 93 yards and accounted for two touchdowns for the Eagles.

3A Northwestern Six Conference:

No conference games.

2A Allegheny Conference:

No conference games.

2A Century Conference:

Chartiers-Houston Buccaneers (0-0, 0-1) at Beth-Center Bulldogs (1-0, 1-0):  Chartiers-Houston was scheduled to be off last week but picked up a non-section game at Yough in which they lost 29-6.  The Buccaneers finished with 135 yards of offense and picked up their only points on a Nathan Cavallo 41-yard pick six.  Beth-Center defeated Waynesburg in the opener by a score of 20-7.  Colby Kuhns ran for two touchdowns for the Bulldogs.

McGuffey Highlanders (1-0, 1-0) at Charleroi Cougars (0-1, 0-1):  McGuffey picked up a 7-6 victory over Washington last week in what could end up being for the conference title.  Kyle Brookman scored on a 3-yard run and the successful extra point ended up being the difference.  Charleroi started their season by being shutout, 34-0, at Frazier.  McGuffey defeated Charleroi last year 28-14.

Waynesburg Raiders (0-1, 0-1) at Washington Prexies (0-1, 0-1):  Waynesburg hosted Beth-Center last week and lost 20-7.  The Raiders took a 7-0 lead on a Breydon Woods 3-yard run.  Washington lost 7-6 at McGuffey in a potential conference championship game.  Tayshawn Levy ran for a 1-yard touchdown, but the two-point conversion was no good as the Prexies lost by one point.

2A Midwestern Conference:

Mohawk Warriors (1-0, 1-0) at Neshannock Lancers (0-1, 0-1):  Thursday Night Football.  Mohawk traveled to Ellwood City last week and left with a 45-0 victory.  Cory Brown scored a pair of 65-yard touchdowns, one on a pass from John Voss, the other on an interception.  Neshannock was defeated 14-7 at home by Laurel.  Nathan Ioanilli scored on a 4-yard run for the Lancers.  Neshannock beat Mohawk 34-3 last year.

Ellwood City Wolverines (0-1, 0-1) at New Brighton Lions (1-0, 1-0):  Ellwood City was blown out last week, at home to Mohawk, by a score of 45-0.  New Brighton picked up a big road win with a 24-6 victory at Freedom.  Nya Green ran for two touchdowns in the win.  New Brighton defeated Ellwood City 38-0 last season.

Freedom Bulldogs (0-1, 0-1) at Riverside Panthers (0-1, 0-1):  Freedom lost 24-6 at home to New Brighton and their coach was fired by a player vote earlier this week.  The Bulldogs scored their lone touchdown on a Damian Grunnagle 10-yard fumble return.  Riverside hosted Beaver Falls and were defeated 47-14.  Calvin Hughes ran for both Panthers’ touchdowns and kicked both extra points.  Freedom won this matchup a year ago by the score of 31-30.

Laurel Spartans (1-0, 1-0) at Beaver Falls Tigers (1-0, 1-0):  Laurel traveled to Neshannock and came away with a 14-7 victory.  Logan Ayers scored with 7:09 left in the game to give Laurel the win.  Beaver Falls is touted by many as the #1 team in 2A and they started their season with a 47-14 win at Riverside.  Josh Hough scored three rushing touchdowns to lead the Tigers.

2A Three Rivers Conference:

Carlynton Cougars (1-0, 1-0) at South Side Rams (0-1, 0-1):  Carlynton started their season with a forfeit win over Sto-Rox after the Vikings had numerous players academically ineligible.  South Side lost 15-9 in a tough battle with Western Beaver.  Parker Statler ran for a 51-yard touchdown in the loss.  South Side defeated Carlynton 50-13 last season.

1A Big Seven Conference:

Burgettstown Blue Devils (1-0, 1-0) at OLSH Chargers (1-0, 1-0):  Burgettstown hosted Fort Cherry last week and won 27-22 in a battle of teams dropping from 2A.  Shane Kemper rushed for three touchdowns in the victory.  OLSH traveled to Cornell and won a hard-fought game by the score of 34-26.  Steven Greer ran for 189 yards in the win.

Cornell Raiders (0-1, 0-1) at Northgate Flames (0-1, 0-1):  Cornell lost at home to OLSH by a score of 34-26.  Tim Henderson scored three touchdowns for the Raiders in the loss.  Northgate started their season with a 47-6 home loss to Rochester which extended their losing streak to 25 games in a row.  Cornell beat Northgate 57-14 last year.

Fort Cherry Rangers (0-1, 0-1) at Shenango Wildcats (1-0, 1-0):  Fort Cherry made the short trip to Burgettstown and came home with a 27-22 loss.  Maddox Truschel threw for 163 yards and accounted for two touchdowns in the loss.  Shenango hosted Union on Saturday night and won 25-12.  Reis Watkins ran the ball 30 times for 212 yards and a touchdown.  Watkins also completed 4 of 12 throws for 36 yards and a touchdown.

Union Scotties (0-1, 0-1) at Rochester Rams (1-0, 1-0):  Union traveled to Shenango on Saturday night and came home with a 25-12 loss.  The Scotties scored both of their touchdowns on special teams.  Tyler Staub threw for 174 yards but also threw three interceptions.  Rochester started their season on fire as they defeated Northgate 47-6.  Denny Robinson ran for 169 yards and three touchdowns.  J.D. Azulay scored two touchdowns on a 68-yard interception return and a 34-yard run.  Union beat Rochester last year 47-14.

1A Eastern Conference:

Clairton Bears (1-0, 1-0) at Leechburg Blue Devils (1-0, 1-0): Clairton passed a massive test last week as they won at Jeannette by a score of 34-28.  Dontae Sanders had a huge game for Bears, rushing for 209 yards.  Leechburg also got a big win last week as they defeated Greensburg Central Catholic 55-37.  Dylan Cook was 10 of 22 passing for 227 yards while Braylan Lovelace ran for 128 yards in the win.  Clairton beat Leechburg 48-14 a year ago.

Greensburg CC Centurions (0-1, 0-1) at Imani Christian Saints (0-1, 0-1):  Greensburg CC traveled to Leechburg and was defeated 55-37.  Amari Mack scored on two kickoff returns (88 & 85) and caught a 54-yard touchdown pass.  Imani Christian played at Bishop Canevin last Saturday and lost 18-12.  Greensburg CC shut out Imani last year 41-0.

Jeannette Jayhawks (0-1, 0-1) at Riverview Raiders (0-1, 0-1):  Saturday Afternoon Football.  Jeannette will have to bounce back from their 34-28 home loss to Clairton.  Riverview were blown out 41-7 by their rivals at Springdale.  Jeannette’s last win was against Riverivew by a score of 61-6.

Springdale Dynamos (1-0, 1-0) at Bishop Canevin Crusaders (1-0, 1-0):  Saturday Night Football.  Springdale hosted their rivals, Riverview, and sent them home with a 41-7 defeat.  Logan Dexter scored three touchdowns for the Dynamos.  Bishop Canevin defeated Imani Christian last Saturday night by a score of 18-12.  Xavier Nelson returned a punt for a 70-yard touchdown and caught a 50-yard touchdown pass in the win.  Springdale beat Bishop Canevin 41-6 in a non-conference game last year.

1A Tri-County South Conference:

Bentworth Bearcats (0-1, 0-1) at Monessen Greyhounds (0-1, 0-1):  Bentworth hosted California last week and lost 27-7.  Seth Adams threw for 135 yards in the loss for the Bearcats.  Monessen also lost last week, a 20-7 loss at home to Avella.  Monessen took a 7-0 lead on Isaiah Beltram’s 3-yard touchdown run.  Monessen beat Bentworth 60-3 last year.

Jefferson-Morgan Rockets (0-1, 0-1) at Avella Eagles (1-0, 1-0):  Jefferson-Morgan were trounced last week by a score of 41-6 at Carmichaels.  Cole Jones threw for 117 yards in the loss.  Avella started their season right with a 20-7 victory at Monessen.  Tanner Terensky scored two touchdowns for the Eagles, a 23-yard catch from Kenneth Rush and a 95-yard pick six.  Jefferson-Morgan beat Avella 44-7 last year.

Mapletown Maples (0-1, 0-1) at Carmichaels Mighty Mikes (1-0, 1-0):  Mapletown traveled to West Greene to begin their season and were sent home with a 43-8 loss.  The Maples scored their lone points on a Cohen Stout 12-yard run.  Carmichaels made the move back down to 1A and defeated Jefferson-Morgan 41-6.

West Greene Pioneers (1-0, 1-0) at California Trojans (1-0, 1-0):  This game has been postponed due to covid-19.  West Greene began their conference title defense with a 43-8 win over Mapletown.  California also started their season with a victory, a 27-7 triumph at Bentworth.

Non-Conference:

Ambridge Bridgers (0-1) at Aliquippa Quips (1-0):  Ambridge was defeated 49-7 at home against Keystone Oaks last week.  Floyd Sims scored their lone points on a 1-yard run.  Aliquippa began their move up to 4A with a 44-28 win at New Castle.  Vernon Redd scored twice on a 62-yard punt return and a 93-yard run to lead the Quips.

Apollo-Ridge Vikings (1-0) at Freeport Yellowjackets (1-0):  Apollo-Ridge welcomed Ligonier Valley to the WPIAL with a 44-7 trouncing.  Jacob Fello was 12 of 17 passing for 209 yards and five touchdowns for the Vikings.  Freeport defeated Deer Lakes 29-7 last week.  Cole Charlton had a 45-yard pick six and Ben Lane added two second half touchdowns to seal the victory.

Bethel Park Blackhawks (0-1) at Gateway Gators (1-0):  Bethel Park began a rebuilding season with a 34-7 loss at Upper St Clair.  The Blackhawks got their lone points on a 3-yard run by Troy Volpatti.  Gateway kicked off their season with a 41-7 victory over Franklin Regional.  Derrick Davis ran for 126 yards and Carsen Engelka was 9 of 17 passing for 297 yards.  Gateway eliminated Bethel Park in the 5A quarterfinals last year by a score of 17-13.

Blackhawk Cougars (1-0) at Central Valley Warriors (1-0):  Blackhawk defeated Beaver at home last week by a score of 22-7.  Jordan Patterson kicked three field goals (33, 31, 27) to lead the Cougars.  Central Valley began their quest for a WPIAL title repeat with a 51-2 win over Hopewell.  Stephon Hall had an 83-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and Myles Walker returned a punt for a 67-yard touchdown.  The Warriors beat the Cougars 32-15 in a non-conference game last season.

Brentwood Spartans (1-0) at Quaker Valley Quakers (0-1):  Brentwood defeated Seton LaSalle last week by a score of 33-21.  Aidan Wardzinski led all WPIAL players with 263 rushing yards.  He scored four touchdowns on his 36 carries.  Quaker Valley was shut out 35-0 at reigning 2A champion Avonworth.

Franklin Regional Panthers (0-1) at Fox Chapel Foxes (0-1):  Franklin Regional traveled to rival Gateway and were sent home with a 41-7 defeat.  The Panthers got the only points in the second half as Jeffrey Downs caught a 4-yard touchdown pass from Trevor Brncic.  Fox Chapel traveled to Pine-Richland, the new team in 5A, and were defeated 53-7.  The Foxes scored their lone touchdown, already down 53-0, on a 45-yard touchdown pass from Justin Rice to Colin Kwiatkowski.

Hopewell Vikings (0-1) at Montour Spartans (0-1):  Hopewell was defeated by reigning 3A champs, Central Valley, by a score of 51-2.  The Vikings held a 2-0 lead after a safety in the first quarter.  Montour were stunned at home by a score of 34-7 by 4A newcomer, Chartiers Valley.  Luke Persinger was 13 of 21 passing for 138 yards in the loss.

Keystone Oaks Golden Eagles (1-0) at Steel Valley Ironmen (0-0):  Keystone Oaks started their season off with a 49-7 win at Ambridge.  Logan Shrubb threw for 210 yards, rushed for 122 yards, and accounted for four total touchdowns.  Mark Hutchin had nine catches for 137 yards and a touchdown.  Steel Valley had their game against Serra Catholic postponed.

Kiski Area Cavaliers (0-0) at Connellsville Falcons (0-1): Monday Night Football.  Kiski Area had their first game of the season postponed due to covid-19.  Connellsville gave up a lot of points last week in a 60-20 loss at Woodland Hills.  Gage Gillott accounted for all 20 points as he ran for two touchdowns, threw a touchdown pass, and kicked two extra points for the Falcons.

Latrobe Wildcats (0-1) at Mount Pleasant Vikings (1-0):  Latrobe was defeated by a score of 48-14 at Penn-Trafford.  Kyle Brewer caught a 14-yard touchdown pass from Landon Carns in the loss.  Mount Pleasant got their conference slate off to a good start with a 21-14 win over South Allegheny.  Pete Billey ran for 107 yards and scored two touchdowns to lead the Vikings.

Ligonier Valley Rams (0-1) at Frazier Commodores (1-0):  Ligonier Valley was welcomed back to the WPIAL with a 44-7 loss at Apollo-Ridge.  Grant Dowden scored on a 66-yard touchdown pass from Haden Sierocky to make it 10-7, but it was all downhill after that.  Frazier hosted Charleroi last week and shut them out 34-0.  Brayden Boggs threw for 198 yards and three touchdowns in the victory.  Kenny Fine ran seven times for 120 yards and accounted for two touchdowns.

Moon Tigers (1-0) at North Hills Indians (1-0):  Moon hosted West Allegheny last week and defeated them 28-14.  The Tigers got four touchdowns from four different players.  North Hills took on rival Shaler and beat them 35-7.  Robert Dickerson returned the opening kickoff 86 yards for a touchdown and Curtis Foskey scored two rushing touchdowns as the Indians took a 35-0 lead into halftime.

New Castle Red Hurricane (0-1) at McKeesport Tigers (0-1):  New Castle hosted 4A newcomer Aliquippa and lost 44-28.  Malachi Sherman scored on a 15-yard interception and a 28-yard pass from Chris Hood, but it was not enough for the Red Hurricane.  McKeesport was shut out 20-0 at home by Belle Vernon.  The patented Tigers rushing attack only gained 121 yards.

Penn Hills Indians (0-1) at Woodland Hills Wolverines (1-0):  Penn Hills had their game against Kiski Area postponed due to covid-19.  They were able to pick up a game at North Allegheny but were sent home with a 27-6 loss.  The Indians took a 6-0 lead on a 36-yard touchdown pass from Julian Duggar to Jaden Duggar.  Woodland Hills scored a 60-20 victory over Connellsville.  Deontae Williams threw for 276 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Wolverines.

Penn-Trafford Warriors (1-0) at Peters Township Indians (0-0):  Penn-Trafford lit up the scoreboard in a 48-14 home win over Latrobe.  Ethan Carr threw for 180 yards and three touchdowns.  Cade Yacamelli (126) and Brad Ford (102) each ran for over 100 yards and each scored a touchdown.  Peters Township had their game with South Fayette postponed due to covid-19.  Peters Township defeated Penn-Trafford in the 5A semifinals last season by a score of 28-10.

Pine-Richland Rams (1-0) at Upper St. Clair Panthers (1-0):  Pine-Richland made their 5A debut in grand fashion as they defeated Fox Chapel 53-7.  Cole Spencer was 15 of 17 for 338 yards and Eli Jochem had five catches for 200 yards in the win.  Upper St. Clair welcomed rival Bethel Park and defeated them 34-7.  Jaden Keating and Ethan Dahlem had two rushing touchdowns each in the Panthers victory.

Serra Catholic Eagles (0-0) at Seton LaSalle Rebels (0-1):  Serra Catholic had their game against Steel Valley postponed.  Seton LaSalle lost their section opener 33-21 at Brentwood.  Tyler Hill caught four passes for 118 yards and two touchdowns in the defeat.  Serra Catholic defeated Seton LaSalle 41-6 in a conference matchup last season.

South Fayette Lions (1-0) at Chartiers Valley Colts (1-0):  South Fayette traveled to Dover, Ohio after their game with Peters Township was postponed.  They came back to PA with a 42-14 victory.  Naman Alameda threw for 224 and had four passing touchdowns.  Shay Aitken ran for 176 yards and a touchdown.  Chartiers Valley opened some eyes with a 34-7 victory at Montour.  Anthony Mackey ran for 143 yards on 14 carries to lead the Colts.

Sto-Rox Vikings (0-0) at Avonworth Antelopes (1-0):  Sto-Rox had to forfeit their game last week after having too many academically ineligible players.  Avonworth can’t defend their 2A title as they have moved up in classification.  They began their 3A life with a 35-0 win against Quaker Valley.  Ian Syam had 127 yards rushing for the Antelopes.

West Allegheny Indians (0-1) at Shaler Titans (0-1):  Saturday Afternoon Football.  West Allegheny started their conference schedule with a 28-14 loss at Moon.  Nodin Tracy got the Indians scoring started with a 26-yard touchdown reception from Gavin Miller.  Shaler also started their conference schedule with a loss, a 35-7 defeat at North Hills.  Dominic Rossi was 10 of 20 passing for 100 yards and a touchdown in the loss.

Western Beaver Golden Beavers (1-0) at Beaver Bobcats (0-1):  Saturday Night Football.  Western Beaver traveled to South Side and left with a hard-fought 15-9 victory.  Bug Bradford had the winning score on a 73-yard fumble return in the fourth quarter.  Beaver was defeated by a score of 22-7 at Blackhawk.  Wyatt Ringer scored on a 1-yard touchdown run to avoid the shutout.
