The Central Clarion Wildcats football team, a new entity, consisting of a co-op between Clarion Area, North Clarion and Clarion-Limestone School Districts revealed their official logo during a program at the Clarion Mall on Friday, July 3rd. The program was held in conjunction with the “I Love Clarion” festivities and fireworks, the same evening.

Historian Ken Burkett and wife Cheryl

There were two presentations of the program and logo reveal, with attendance limited to 200 people for each, because of Covid 19 guidelines.

Area Historian Ken Burkett had a display with many pieces of memorabilia from the 105th Pennsylvania Regiment, nicknamed the Wildcats, which fought at Gettysburg and other battles in the Civil War, from which the team derives their name. Mr. Burkett’s presentation covered much of the history and background of the Regiment.

At the end of the presentation, their were screen shots of the Logo, designed by Clarion Area Alumnus Karl Jacobson, as well as the new uniforms.

Karl had this to say, “We really wanted to give the schools a new identity while staying true to our area. When they settled on the “Wildcats” as a tribute to the Civil War Regiment that originated in the area I could not have been more excited.

“We based the design of the cat on the one in the 105th Infantry Monument in Gettysburg and added the crossed swords to give it that Civil War look. The most important thing was to give the kids a logo that was all their own. An identity that wasn’t tied to one school or another, but the team and the group of young men that comes together on that field. It was an honor to help do that for them.”

Clarion Area Superintendent, Dr. Joe Carrico had this to say, “We hope the communities can embrace the historical significance of the mascot and logo. We are very appreciative of the support the kids and school districts get from the communities, Boards and families. We are looking forward to a continued successful co op between all three school districts.”
