They say good things come to those who wait.  Saturday afternoon in DuBois, the Coudersport Falcons waited till the fourth quarter before putting the pedal to the metal in claiming their second straight D-9 Class A title.  The Falcons trailed the Redbank Valley Bulldogs 7-6 heading into the final stanza and then they erupted for 36 points in claiming the 42-13 triumph.

Trailing 7-0 at halftime, Coudy scored on the opening possession of the third quarter on QB Hayden Keck’s 22-yard run, but the 2-point conversion failed and they still trailed by one.  In fact, through three quarters the Bulldog defense had allowed the Falcons a total of 136 yards (only 67 for the first half).  Then, in the fourth, Coudersport scored five times within a span of 8 minutes and in doing so gained 215 yards.

Keck scored three touchdowns to show the way for the Falcons.  Dylan Kelly, Jacob Pitcher, and Brandt Kightlinger also tallied for the victors.  Pitcher’s TD was a thing of beauty as he emerged from a scrum of bodies and outraced the remaining defenders for a 52-yard score.

Redbank garnered the only touchdown of the first half when Kobe Bonanno bulled in from a yard out in the first quarter after Chase Bish had intercepted a Keck pass.  Their second TD came on a reverse and then pass that had Ethan Hetrick finding Sam Hetrick wide open for 73 yards.

Coudersport, who has one of the top scoring defenses in the state, allowed Redbank a total of 201 yards with 73 of that coming on the trick play.  Coudersport ended the contest with 373 total yards, 328 via the ground game.  The Falcons did not throw a pass in the second half.  Redbank finishes the 2019 campaign with a 9-3 record, while Coudy remains unbeaten at 11-0.  The Falcons will tangle with the Farrell Steelers next week somewhere in District 9.
