District Nine Review and Standings – Week 9

Port Allegany came from behind in the 4th quarter to defeat Keystone 20-10 last Friday to keep pace with Redbank at 8-1.  RBV desperately hung on to win their game with Brockway 34-28 after leading at one time 34-14.  The difference ended up being a pick six by Aiden Ortz of the opportunistic Bulldog defense.  The best game of last week was Cameron County’s 28-22 overtime victory in which they downed Otto-Eldred.  Jacob Narby had 2 interceptions for the Red Raiders, the second one in overtime.

Here are the top performers for the week:

Quarterbacks (threw for over 200 yards and/or 2 or more touchdowns) – Jase Ferguson helped his Central Clarion team beat St. Marys 48-27 by throwing for 275 yards and 3 TDs.  His counterpart, Charlie Coudriet of St. Marys passed for 228 yards and 4 TDs.  Redbank’s Braylon Wagner hit passes for 221 yards and a couple scores plus he ran for another.  Brayden Fox had 229 yards throwing the ball and 4 TDs.  Kyle Zook of Kane had 200 yards and 2 scores.  Dan McGarry of Curwensville accounted for 5 touchdowns, 3 passing.  Brookville’s Noah Peterson and Andrew Schenfield of Otto-Eldred threw for 2 touchdowns each.  Maddox Baughman of Cameron County ran for 3 TDs and Brody Dittman of Union/ACV ran for 2 scores.

Jase Ferguson (Central Clarion)

Running Backs (ran for over 100 yards and/or scored 2 or more touchdowns) – Ridgway’s Luke Zimmerman rushed for 218 yards a 2 TDs.  Malaki Zucal of Cameron Co. hit the 200-yard plateau with 209 yards rushing.  Brockway’s Jendy Cuello ran for 178 yards.  Brady Collins of Clearfield had 146 yards on the ground and scored twice.  ECC’s Noah Cherry scored 4 TDs while running for 138 yards.  He also tossed a TD pass.  Kane’s Addison Plants ran for 126 yards.  Kyle Nellis of Keystone had 103 yards rushing.  Connor Kopnitsky of Central Clarion scored 3 times via the ground game.  Scoring 2 rushing TDs were Ben Reynolds (ECC), Ethan Ott (Coudersport), Nathan Hess (Karns City), and Brendon Orr (DuBois).  Noah Archer of Port Allegany scored 2 touchdowns also but one of his was a pass reception.

Wide Receivers (over 100 yards in receptions and/or 2 or more TDs) – St. Marys had a couple wide outs make the honor roll.  Collin Reitz had 140 yards receiving and a couple of TDs.  Carter Chadsey caught 2 TD passes also.  Ashton Rex had 166 yards receiving and scored twice for Central Clarion.  Brookville’s Brayden Kunselman hauled in a pair of TD tosses in gaining 116 yards.  Dylan Hanna had 119 yards catching passes and scored a trio of touchdowns for Brockway.  Ray’shene Thomas had 157 yards in receptions for Otto and Rylan Rupp had 106 yards for RBV.  Nik Fegert caught 3 TD passes for the Golden Tide of Curwensville.

Special Teams and Defense – As mentioned, Jacob Narby had 2 interceptions for Cameron County.  The second was in overtime and was a key to his team’s victory.  As mentioned also, Redbank’s Aiden Ortz returned an interception 47 yards for a TD against Brockway.  Central Clarion’s Tommy Smith scored 2 touchdowns in 12 seconds.  After catching a TD pass, he picked off a St. Marys pass the next play and returned 25 yards it to the house.  Ryan Cooper’s 40-yard pick 6 turned out to be the difference in Union/AC Valley’ win over Ridgway 26-19.  Will Domico of Clearfield had a 36-yard INT return for a TD.  Nick Wisnesky returned a fumble 23 yards for a score for Punxsy.  Coudy’s James Liller recovered a blocked punt in the end zone for a touchdown.  Port Allegany’s Blaine Moses had 18 tackles apparently plus he recovered a fumble and intercepted a pass.  Bradford’s Isaiah Finton had 14 tackles, and his teammate, Evan Whitmore had 12 and recovered a pair of fumbles.

Top Games for the Upcoming Week – Central Clarion (9-0) travels to New Bethlehem to tackle Redbank Valley (8-1) this Friday in what should be a barn burner.  The C.C. Wildcats average over 41 points a game and the Bulldogs of RBV average 36 a game.  Port Allegany (8-1) heads to Duke Center to play Otto-Eldred (6-3) and Union/AC Valley (5-4) makes the trip to Punxsutawney to take on the Chucks (5-4).
