Waylon Ehrenzeller celebrates his first td of 2022

There were lights on Friday, and then again Saturday night in Mifflintown and I’m here to talk about it.

The head coach of District 9 power Clearfield, Tim Janocko, marched his squad into Mifflintown with one plan in mind. That goal was to achieve the win benchmark of three hundred. However as the old adage goes, man plans and god laughs. As the contest started, the buzz around the field was the darkening skies to the west. “It’ll fall apart, it’s going to our north,” etc..are some of the things heard.  Then came the kickoff and everyone forgot about the clouds…..that is…until God sent a signal…

Meanwhile, Juniata owned the pre-delay portion of the contest, as Waylon Ehrenzeller capped the opening drive with a 43 yard touchdown run, and a failed PAT left it 6-0.

The ensuing clearfield possession, an excellent mix of run and pass was halted just outside of the Juniata red zone. Once Juniata got the ball back, play was halted by lightning. And then the rain came. And more lightening. Finally around 9:00 it was announced the game would resume Saturday at 4 pm.

When play resumed a little under 24 hours later, Senior QB Aaron Kanagy managed to pick apart the Clearfield defense, with a drive capped off by Makih Hunt taking a crossing route from 18 yards out to pay dirt. ( kick failed 0:18 12-0 Juniata.) The second quarter was a back and forth defensive battle until Will Domico cashed in on a 8 yard scramble (PAT good 12-7 5:58 2nd).

The defenses would take charge of this matchup until late in quarter number three, when Jordan Dickinson took a misdirection handoff and punched it into the end zone. (4:18 18-7 Juniata kanagy to Hunt 2pt good 20-7). After that ball control football was the name of the game, as both defenses stacked the box and opposing offenses were grinding for 2 yard gains. A late Clearfield rally off of an interception was stopped in its tracks by Waylon Ehrenzeller who had a late sack, at the minute mark.
