Mid-Season District Nine Report

Tagged under: District 9, News

| September 26, 2019

Some football teams in District 9 are having banner years, and some are not.  We’ll start with the haves.  Heading into Friday’s games six teams are undefeated.  They are Clarion, Clearfield, Kane, and Redbank Valley who are all 5-0.  Coudersport and Smethport are 4-0.  There will be at least two less come next week as Clarion takes on Kane and Redbank plays Smethport this Friday.

Clarion has scored the most points, amassing 232 in five games.  Coudersport has yielded only 14 points in four contests.  Ridgway has allowed 45 to lead those who’ve played five games.

Keystone’s Panthers are 4-1 to date this year.  That is their best start since 1989!  The Sheffield Wolverines snapped a 23-game losing streak last week when they defeated Cameron County.

The teams that are winless to date are Bradford, Brockway, DuBois, and Punxsutawney at 0-5, while Cameron County is 0-4.  DuBois may have the best 0-5 squad in Pennsylvania.  They’ve lost to undefeated Clearfield in a game that went deep into the 4th quarter before being decided.  The Bison are the #5 ranked AAAA team in PA.  They suffered a 55-54 setback last week to Oil City who is unbeaten too and ranked #9 in 5A.  The Beaver quarterback, Alex Kovalyak, leads D-9 in passing and is considered 2nd in District 10 since they play mostly D-10 teams.  He has thrown for 1,150 yards.

Besides Clearfield, other state ranked D-9 teams are Clarion #7 and Kane at #10 in double A, and Coudersport comes in at #6 in single A.  Redbank Valley is an honorable mention in 1A.
