Bradford – Pennsylvania rallied from a 21-12 third-quarter deficit to defeat New York on the 50th anniversary of the Big 30 all-star game.

The Keystone State scored two touchdowns in the final 23 seconds of the third quarter to gain the lead for the first time in the contest – a lead they would not relinquish en route to a 34-27 victory Saturday night at Parkway Field in Bradford.

Port Allegany’s Blaine Moses scored on a 5-yard run with 23 seconds to play in the third quarter following a 5-play 66-yard drive – New York then fumbled the ensuing kickoff leading to Eisenhower’s Benji Bauer scoring from 27 yards out two plays later on the quarter’s final snap giving Pennsylvania a 28-21 lead after three.

Bauer rushed for a team-high 63 yards, including 58 in the second half, while Moses chipped in with 32 yards and the touchdown, also catching one pass for 15 yards and a second score.

The final seconds concluded a miserable third quarter for New York, who thought they had extended their lead on the initial second-half possession when Giancarlo Nuzzo threw an apparent 32-yard touchdown pass to Pat Spencer. However, the play was called back for holding, and a punt ensued.

The Empire State did not go quietly into the night as Nuzzo connected with Kyle Stover for a 59-yard touchdown pass pulling New York to within a point following a blocked PAT.

From there, Pennsylvania’s offensive line took control as they drove 80 yards in ten plays as Kane’s Ricky Zampogna scored his second touchdown on an 11-yard run.

New York took over with 6:16 to play but punted after three plays trailing 34-27 – they would not see the football again.

Pennsylvania continued to control the clock and the line scrimmage as the game wore on, running 38 second-half offensive plays to New York’s 17.

The Keystone State began its final march to victory at their 49-yard line with 5:48 to play.

Pennsylvania converted two critical fourth downs during the 10-play drive that chewed up the final minutes.

The first came on a 4th-and-5 from the New York 45-yard line. Port Allegany’s Drew Evans connected with St. Marys’ Carter Chadsey for an 8-yard gain.

The victory was sealed when Evans and the Pennsylvania offense converted a 4th-and-1 from the New York 11-yard line with under a minute to play. Evans completed a pass to Elk County Catholic’s Joe Tettis for six yards to seal the win.

With the victory, Pennsylvania now leads the all-time series 24-22-3.

Evans completed 6-of-11 passes for 90 yards while also rushing for 14.

New York opened the scoring in the first quarter with a 10-play 70-yard drive capped with Christian Swalcy’s 1-yard run.

Ricky Zampogna’s first touchdown pulled Pennsylvania to within 7-6 on a 6-yard run following a 79-yard drive where St. Marys Charlie Coudriet hit Chadey with a 54-yard completion.

Coudriet threw for 102 yards on 8-of-10 passing, while Zampogna rushed for 62 yards and a pair of scores.

Kyle Stover scored his first touchdown of the night on a 4-yard run as the Empire State went ahead 14-6, proceeding a 54-yard 13-play drive.

Stover of Pioneer High School rushed for 38 yards on seven carries while adding four receptions for 105 yards.

A bungled fake punt from the 32-yard line gave Pennslyvania a short 26-yard field to pull within 14-12 when Coudriet connected with Moses on a 15-yard screen pass.

Undaunted, New York beat the clock and scored on the first half’s final play as Nuzzo threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to Swalcy with no time left.

Giancarlo Nuzzo from Franklinville-Ellicottville High School had a big game leading New York in total offense as he threw for 186 yards and two touchdowns on 8-of-9 passing while also rushing for 66 yards.
