Eight University of Pittsburgh Panther football players voluntarily travelled the two hour distance to Brockway’s camp on Saturday to give their time in teaching and advising the Brockway Rover Middle School and High School players and coaching staff. The event lasted from 9:30 until 2:00 at Frank Varischetti Field in Brockway. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity and a great experience for the fifty plus players to be tutored by possibly 8 future NFLers. The players and their coaches got to ask questions, seek advice, and find out better ways of doing things. Varischetti Holdings, LP organized the event bringing in the eight instructors from Pitt. The camp instructors were Phil Jurkovec (QB), Rodney Hammond (RB), Konata Mumpfield (WR), Gavin Bartholomew (TE), Matt Goncalves (OL), David Green (DL), Bangally Kamara (LB), and MJ Devonshire (DB). Jurkovec (Pine-Richland), Bartholomew (Blue Mountain), Green (Pittsburgh Central Catholic), and Devonshire (Aliquippa) are from Pennsylvania. Hammond (Virginia), Mumpfield (Georgia), Goncalves (New York), and Kamara (Ohio) played high school ball outside of PA.
