The game of the week last week was the Port Allegany-Brockway battle, hands down.  Port’s Noah Archer snared a 40-yard touchdown pass from Drew Evens with 6 minutes left in the game to give the Gators a 26-21 lead.  Not to be outdone Brockway’s Brayden Fox led his team into the red zone with 3 minutes remaining only to have a pass deflected and picked off in the end zone.  Getting the ball back for one last gasp, Fox hit Jalen Kosko for 50 yards to the Port 2-yard line with less than a minute left and no timeouts.  Three successive quarterback sneaks only got Brockway to the inch line but no touchdown and time ran out giving the Gators the victory.  Goal line stands like that are pretty rare in high school.

QBs with over 200 yards passing were Christian Coudriet of St. Marys with 334 and 5 touchdown passes, Brayden Fox, Brockway had 321 yards throwing the football and 3 TD tosses, Kane’s Ricky Zampogna had 260 yards, and Redbank’s Bryson Bain threw for 208 yards and 3 scores.  Quarterbacks accounting for at least 3 TDs were Oliver Billotte, Clearfield (3 TD passes), Cam-Ron Hays, DuBois (2 passing, 1 rushing), and Jase Ferguson of Central Clarion (2 passing, 1 rushing).

Clearfield vs. St. Marys in D-9 finals last year. They are ranked #1 and #2 in D-9 and are heading for another showdown this year.

Those with over 100 yards rushing include Smethport’s quarterback Noah Lent with 227 and 3 TDs, running backs Noah Cherry, ECC with 202 yards and 4 scores, Tate Lindemuth, Brookville with 159 yards and 2 TDs, Ben Reynolds, ECC had 155 with 2 TDs, Ryan Love of Otto-Eldred had 142 yards and 3 touchdowns, Noah Archer, Port Allegany rushed for 114 yards scoring once but also caught 2 TD passes, Redbank Valley’s Ray Shreckengost carried the ball for 137 yards, Luke Garing, Karns City had 107, and Mikey Card of Union/AC Valley had 102.

Wide outs with over 100 yards receiving were Jalen Kosko of Brockway (12 catches for 199 yards and 3 touchdowns), Kane’s Landon Darr with 169 yards, and Charlie Coudriet of St. Marys with 132 yards and 3 scores.

In shutting out Huntingdon, Clearfield now has 4 consecutive shutouts and five for the season.  The Bison have only given up a total of 26 points in 8 games.  Clearfield is the only D-9 team that is undefeated.  Bradford and Sheffield are the only two D-9 teams without a win.  Bradford has unfortunately lost 15 straight games.

Top games for the week find Redbank Valley visiting Union/AC Valley, Ridgway at Brookville, and Central Clarion with 3 consecutive wins hosting DuBois at Clarion-Limestone.  The Beavers are proud winners of 5 in a row.

Protime’s top five D-9 teams after eight weeks:

  1. Clearfield 8-0
  2. St. Marys 7-1
  3. Karns City 7-1
  4. Redbank Valley 7-1
  5. Smethport 7-1

HM: Brookville 6-2, DuBois 5-3, Keystone 5-2, Union/AC Valley 6-1
