District 9 was not without some great games and fantastic finishes in ‘week 1.’  Keystone was involved in the game of the week again.  This time they beat Port Allegany 36-30.  The game saw 6 lead changes and was decided on an 82-yard pass with just over 2 minutes to go.  For the second week in a row the Keystone Panthers won despite being outgained offensively.  The big reason, besides the late game long TD pass, was the defense forcing 5 turnovers.

Elk County Catholic knocked off Coudersport 13-12 in a real slobber-knocker by stopping the possible game-winning two-point conversion with less than 2 minutes remaining.  Cameron County has been the real surprise so far.  They went to 2-0 by holding off Bucktail 22-20.

Quarterback performances continue to be a big story in D-9.  Elijah Fitton of Bradford threw for 362 yards and 2 touchdowns in a losing effort against St. Marys.  Freshman sensation Brayden Fox of Brockway threw for over 300 yards also, and the touchdown trifecta in a losing battle with Smethport who appears to be a real contender in 1A.  Speaking of Smethport, their Mr. Everything, QB Noah Lent, accounted for 5 TDs.  He passed for one score but he ran for 170 yards and scored 4 times.  Bryson Bain of RBV appears to have locked down the battle for starting QB and he didn’t disappoint with a 236-yard, 5 touchdown passing performance.

Other notable QBs for the week include Christian Coudriet of St, Marys with 192 yards and 3 TDs; Charlie Krug of Brookville with 244 yards and 3 TDs; Drew Evens of Port Allegany with 208 yards and 2 TDs; Maddox Baughman of Cameron County with 142 yards and 2 TDs.

The wide receiver recognitions go to Brayden Kunselman of Brookville with 205 yards and 2 touchdowns, Chris Marshall of RBV with 114 yards and 3 TD catches, Jared Wilmuth and Dalton Dixon of Bradford with 110 yards-2 TDs and 198 yards and 1 TD respectively, and Matt Pyne of Brockway with 122 yards.

A plethora of running backs had good games.  Kyle Nellis, Keystone, had 152 yards on 14 carries and a 97-yard TD.  He also caught the game-winning 82-yard pass.  Noah Archer of Port Allegany rushed 19 times for 192 yards and a couple of scores.  He also caught 4 passes for 111 yards and 2 more TDs.  Dawson Camper of Union/AC Valley scored 4 times, as did Dom Allegretto of Ridgway.  Mike Card, Union/AC Valley, rushed for over 100 yards and scored a touchdown and Jayce Anderson of Karns City rushed for 122 yards and a TD.

Top Five D-9 Teams (no change from last week):

  1. Clearfield 2-0
  2. Karns City 2-0
  3. Ridgway 2-0
  4. Marys 1-1
  5. Smethport 2-0

HM: Brookville 2-0, Elk County Catholic 2-0, Keystone 2-0, Port Allegany 1-1, Redbank Valley 1-1
