Redbank Valley used a balanced offensive attack and lowered them boom defensively as the Bulldogs routed Curwensville 39-0 Thursday night in New Bethlehem.

“That’s two shutouts in a row, and we’ll take that,” said Redbank Valley head coach Blane Gold. “It’s been a while since that’s happened at Redbank Valley. Curwensville is one of the most historically physical teams in our district, and that is where we want to get to.”

The Bulldogs scored early and often including two touchdowns in the final minute of the first half to help build a 32-0 lead by halftime.

Quarterback Gunner Mangiantini threw four touchdown passes, and completed 13-of-20 attempts for 191 yards. He also ran eight times for 73 yards.

“We wanted to throw the ball, especially for next week,” said Gold “Gunner did some nice things throwing the ball. We have some things we need to clean up, but we were happy we were able to throw the ball around a bit.”

Mangiantini threw touchdown passes of 15 and 61 yards to Sam Hetrick; while Ethan Hetrick hauled in four passes, including two touchdown receptions of 33 yards. Sam had four catches for 97 yards.

Kobe Bonanno scored on a pair of first-quarter touchdown runs of ten and one yard. Bonanno rushed for 51 yards on three carries.

Redbank Valley outgained Curwensville 406-69 in total offense.

The Golden Tide was led by Duane Brady, who had 40 yards rushing.

“We have freshman quarterback against zero coverage, they were loading up the box defensively, and the way to beat that is to throw the ball,” said Curwensville head coach Jim Thompson “When you can’t throw the ball they can line everybody up in the box to stop it. We lined up Brady as our main back, and we were more pleased with that second half than any we’ve done all year. I’m proud of the way our kids played until the end.”

The Bulldogs now run their record to 7-0 and meet currently 5-0 Coudersport next week.

“It’s a heavyweight matchup,” said Gold. “You’ve got two teams where both sides know what the others are going to do. They’re the defending champs. I expect them to be the favorites. They should be because until someone dethrones them, they’re still the champs.”

Curwensville now drops to 1-6 on the year and will try and rebound next week against Otto-Eldred.

“Our kids never back down, and they play hard every game,” said Thompson. “We’re very young, and this is another building block for us.”
