Trey Wingard Passes DuBois to Victory Over Ridgway

It was Homecoming Night at Mansell Stadium in DuBois and the mood of the large crowd was happy and excited.  The Beavers, led by Trey Wingard, kept the crowd’s jovial spirit alive as they throttled the visiting Ridgway Elkers 62-18.  DuBois scored every single time they touched the ball, seven offensive touchdowns, a pick six, and a kickoff return.

Ridgway had been playing well the past few weeks, but it just wasn’t their night.  Even though the Elkers were outmatched, they never quit.  They battled hard, scored some points offensively, but defensively had trouble with the DuBois passing game.  Trey Wingard threw five touchdown passes for DuBois, four in the first half, as he completed 14 of 18 for 260 yards.  None of the five first half DuBois scoring drives took more than five plays, and only one of those possessions took more than a minute.

Trey Wingard #10 looks for an open receiver as Danny Dixon #34 hustles out to the flat just in case Wingard needs him.

After the DuBois defense forced an Elker punt, the Beavers went 54 yards in five plays taking 1:07 off the clock to score the game’s first points.  Isaiah Korney snared a 2-yard toss from Wingard and Owen McCleary tacked on the first of his six straight PATs.  The Beavers scored three minutes later, after another Ridgway punt, when Wingard connected with Brysen Delaney from 22 yards out.

Ridgway cut the lead to 14-6 when Rocco Delhunty plunged into the middle of the line on a fourth and one at the DuBois 49, eventually broke off the pile to his right and suddenly found daylight and clear sailing to the end zone.  But that was the closest the Elkers would come.

The quick strike offense of the Beavers scored twenty-one seconds later on a Wingard to Carter Vos pass that resulted in a 33-yard touchdown.  Then early in the second quarter, Wingard connected with Nate Kougher for a 50-yard touchdown bomb.  That put the Beavers on top 28-6.  But DuBois was not done.

When a short Ridgway punt was returned to the Elker 25, Danny Dixon completed the four-play drive with a 1-yard plunge for the score.  Subsequently, as Ridgway was putting together a nice drive, Jaxson Hanzely of DuBois intercepted a jump pass and took off down the Ridgway sideline.  Seventy-two yards later he hit the end zone to give the Beavers an insurmountable 42-6 lead a minute and a half before the homecoming intermission.

On the opening possession of the third quarter, DuBois completed the 61-yard drive when Wingard found Kougher for the 17-yard TD toss.  Ridgway answered with a nice ten-play drive that ended on another Delhunty touchdown run on the first play of the fourth quarter, this time it was an 8-yard run.

Dalton Reasinger scored on a 19-yard run for the Beavers to shoot the score up to 56-12 after Kyan Peck’s second PAT.  Ridgway continued to play hard and put together another nice drive that resulted in Owen Steger scoring with 4 seconds left in the game.  But the scoring was not over.

Freshman London Duncan took the Elker kickoff at his own 16, headed up the middle, made a couple moves and outraced the Ridgway kickoff team down the DuBois sideline to score the Beavers ninth touchdown of the night and give DuBois the 62-18 victory.

DuBois outgained Ridgway 404 yards to 300 yards.  Ridgway’s Rocco Delhunty led all rushers on the night as he carried the rock 23 times for 120 yards.  DuBois only had the ball for 3 minutes and 47 seconds in the first half, yet led 42-6.

Next week the 6-1 DuBois Beavers travel up north to play the 3-3 St. Marys Flying Dutchmen.  The Elkers of Ridgway, who fell to 2-5 on the year, will continue their road swing as they visit the 2-4 Keystone Panthers.
