Last night I made my way to Barnesville, Ohio to watch the Shamrocks battle a Buckeye Local team, who came in trying to break a 42 game losing streak. As I watched the teams go through their warm-ups, I thought this game is going to be as ugly as I thought it would be. I had chosen this game to go to because I had never been to Shamrock stadium plus I had not been able to watch Barnesville play since 1992 and that was a playoff game at Gahanna high school against a now-defunct team called C.A.P.E.

With 7:20 left in a fast-moving opening quarter, Spencer Bliss hauled in a pass taking it to the Buckeye Local 15 yard line. The Panthers defense responded with a 15-yard loss when Hunter Darrah sacked Ayden Hannahs to bring up a fourth and twenty-three for the Shamrocks. Gage Hannahs would help Ayden get some sweet revenge when he leaped high into the air to bring in a pass for the game’s first score. After Gavin Carpenter made good on the P.A.T. we had ourselves a 7-0 game, with 4:33 showing on the clock.

Buckeye Local had just gotten a 14-yard catch by Jacob Zanes only to see uncle Mo. change sides when Alex Meade recovered a fumble to give the ball back to the home team. Two Hannahs to Hannahs completions would keep Barnesville drive alive as the quarter came to a close. The drive ended on play thirteen, with Ayden Hannahs going the final nine yards for the score. His offensive line opened a big hole, that allowed him to score easily. The P.AT. by Carpenter made this a 14-0 game, with 10:05 left in the half.

It appeared Buckeye Local was getting a long reception by Brian Palmer Jr. but Ayden Hannahs took the ball from him and once again Barnesville was back in business or so it appeared. There were two bad snaps in a row, with the 2nd one being recovered by the Panthers Luke Darrah for a touchdown. A two-point conversion was successful to make this a 14-8 game, with 6:03 left.

Hunter Darrah, who stood out in the loss was able to get to Ayden Hannahs for a short loss to temporarily stall the Shamrock offense. A Hannahs to Hannahs 25 yard completion would restart the offense and set up the next score, which came on a 3 yard QB draw by Ayden Hannahs. A two-point conversion failed when Corban Westfall stopped the Shamrocks ball carrier keeping the score 20-8.

An easy pick by A.J.Detling on a poorly thrown ball by the Panthers quarterback Hayden Taylor would set up the only score in the third quarter. The score came a short time after a 41-yard gallop by Owen Oliver. The score was an eight-yard run by Alex Mead to make this a 26-8 game. The game’s final score came from Caden Lake on a five-yard run. The P.A.T. would make the final score 33-8.

For Buckeye Local the streak is at 43 games with a chance coming next week to end it against a tough Union Local team. For Barnsville they travel to Byesville to face what should be a very stout Meadowbrook squad.
