Ipswich Tigers v. Leola/Frederick Titans

At Northern State University, a four-game event featuring Lake Region Conference teams. Two games were played on Friday, and two on Saturday. The host of the event just built the new Dacotah Bank Stadium. Opened on September 11th, 2021, it was the perfect venue for the four game affair.

For Saturday, the two games started at 1pm under a very light rain. Turning to a downpour at the start of the second game before giving way to sun and blue skies.

To open, Leola/Frederick were the designated home team against Ipswich. The night game was 3-school co-op North Central Thunder against the Panthers of Great Plains Lutheran in Watertown. The three teams not from Watertown hail from the north central part of the state along the North Dakota border.

And all four are 9-man teams. A common reality of South Dakota is small towns, small schools, and by association, small football teams. Where 9-man in South Dakota is and can be played on a regulation 100×53.3 yard field. As opposed to the 100×40 yard fields associated with 9-man in other states.

Thirty-five minutes later, the start of Great Plains Lutheran and North Central kicked off. Under a heavy drizzle that turned into a consistent rain. As the game progressed, Great Plains Lutheran slowly pulled away from their relocated hosts.
