Yesterday I made my first visit to Akron Buchtel high school,to take in the game between Akron East and Akron Buchtel. The game was for the Akron City League championship, with both teams entering with 4-0 league records. Over all East was 8-1, while Buchtel was 5-4.

Mychael Leno got things started for the home team with a 21-yard touchdown pass to senior Zayir Keen with 8:08 to go in the first quarter. Sophomore kicker Dylan West connected with the point after kick, to make this a 7-0 game. The drive total nine plays and totaled sixty two yards.

Romeo Felton would cap off an eight-play, 65-yard drive, with a 10 yard run to make it 7-6 with 3:36 left in the first quarter.
Early on neither team seemed affected by the rain and the mud, but it would eventually take its toll on both teams, maybe a little more on the Dragons, from East.

Robert Young-Jones would rush for a 90 yard touchdown, with 3:13 remaining in the first quarter to make this a 14-6 contest.
Jones would end his day with 168 yards on 18 carries. Not a bad days work under the conditions he played in.

Kyre Williams shook loose and raced to a a 53 yard touchdown run with 9:55 to go in the second quarter and just like that we had a 14-12 ball game. At this point both teams seemed poised to keep up the high octane offenses that they had displayed thus far in this one.

Buchtel would score twice more before the half ended. The first score came on a Jones ran for a 14-yard touchdown at 4:44 and the second came when Marquest Foster scooped up a fumble and ran 35 yards for a touchdown, with a little under 5:00 left on the clock.

The Griffins defense was outstanding in this one. They forced five Dragon turnovers, with two forced fumbles and three picks. Getting the pics were,Aaron Spooney(2) and Mychael Leno. Marquest Foster and Ricky Good each recovered a fumble.
