With the Columbine Rebels a considerable favorite going into this game, you could understand Pomona’s consternation when falling behind after the first quarter, 7-0. However, two quick TDs early in the second frame, matched by Columbine to tie it, 14-14 was broken up again with a last minute TD, a 2-yard run by Pomona gave them the lead they’d never relinquish. Though Columbine did their best.

After two more touchdowns in the third seemed to settle the game, Columbine came roaring back with a late TD, late recovery of a fumble, another TD, a missed extra point to tie it, an onside kick, and a 47 yard field goal that wasn’t good. All in a game that seemed ‘over’ more than once.

Pomona goes on to play undefeated Ralston Valley next weekend.
