Last night I made another drive to Bainbridge to watch the Paint Valley Bearcats host the Jamestown Greenview Rams in A playoff game. This one was almost like two different games, with both teams seemed evenly matched. In the 2nd half, it was like one team were stacked with NFL all-stars while the other looked like A team from the arena football league. Before getting into the game, I wanted to say how cool and funny the Rams fans were, at least I can speak for those who set near me or me them depending on how you wanna look at it. The roster for the rams came from digtalscout.com For Paint Valley the roster as always came from svcsportszone.com.

The Rams known for their potent rushing attack came out throwing the ball with the result being A 15-yard completion to Cater Williams from Cole Dehaven.  On the next play, Dehaven dropped back to pass but never got the chance because  Tramel Byrd dropped his for A 4-yard loss. I said to Coach Cooper and to Coach Dye after the game that Byrd has gotten better and better each game I have watched him play this year. Last night the kid took that to another level.

When the Bearcats got the ball for the first time Byrd used some nice work from his talented offensive line to pick up 20-yards. Cordell Grubb went to his left, used some good blocking to pick up 19-yards. In my opinion, I think the Bearcats knew they were going to be able to run the ball but I really do not think they ever thought it was going to be as easy as it seemed to be, after those two-plays. Using the double handoff Grubb was able to do his John Riggins impression to rumble for 23-yards to the Rams 5-yard line. From there the tough Rams defense woke up and force the Bearcats into a fourth and one from the one, with Dehaven stopping the Bearcat runner at the half-yard line.

The Rams first drive did not last long and they were forced into A punting situation inside their own thirty. I told the fans setting near me I would not be shocked to see A fake punt and they were like no way. Well, Dehaven broke to his left and headed upfield only to be stopped by Byrd.

It would take the Bearcats all of two-plays to light up the scoreboard. Cavan Cooper would fake a handoff to Byrd then take off running with his destination being the end zone. Dax Estep nailed the P.A.T. to give the Bearcats A 7-0 lead, with 11:56 left in the half.

The Rams offense went to the ground game on their next drive with Jayden Dehaven showing off his speed to gain 30-yards to take the ball to the Bearcats 8-yard line.  Not only does this young man have the speed he has power he showed this off on the run too by busting through two tackles. The Rams drive ended when Grubb stuffed Dakota Mangan for A 3-yard loss on A fourth and one try from the 1-yard line.

Right away the Bearcats called on Bryd to start the drive and he responded with A tough 12-yard gain with his line again dominating on the play. With 5:59 left in the half Cooper was picked off by Caleb Allen. The Bearcats responded right away with Byrd doing his best Jack Tatum impression as he rushed Cole Dehaven and lowered the boom forcing A pass to go awry. Dehaven hit the turf like A bolder being dropped from the top of A mountain. The Rams would face A fourth and one, with 3:41 left in the half and the result was not what they had wished for because Grubb plastered Jayden Dehaven for A short loss.

The Rams defense got them on the scoreboard when Gabe Younker stripped the Bearcats ball carrier and raced for the score. Hunter Anderson locked this one up at seven with his P.A.T. with 3:29 left in the half. On the Bearcats ensuing drive, the Rams defense was hyped Ian Henery made two nice plays. He crushed Grubb on A screenplay holding him to just 3-yards. Then he stooped Cooper for a loss of two to force the Bearcats to drop back into punt formation. This time it would be the Bearcats faking the punt, with Cooper taking the handoff from Grubb, the punter he then broke to the visitors side picking up A large chunk of yards and more importantly moving the chains. Cooper then threw a pretty pass to the sideline deep downfield in the direction of Cole Miller, who leaped high up in the air made the catch, and came down with both feet in bounds for A 30-yard gain. THE PAFOOTBALLNEWS PLAYER OF THE GAME TRAMEL BYRD closed the drive out with a 10-yard touchdown run to make this A 13-7 game at the half.

The third quarter started with Bryd using two Walter Payton like stiff arms to pick up 13-yards. Later on the drive, Henery stooped Cooper for no gain next on third and one Cohen Hickman drooped Grubb for no gain on third and one. After converting on fourth down and on the drives fourteenth play Byrd used work from his offensive line to go 11-yards for the touchdown. Cooper went untouched to the endzone on the two-point conversion run to make this A 21-7 game. I said to coach Cooper and Dye after the game, that I thought that drive did in the Rams. Being the classy guys they are they had no real response to my dumb fan thoughts.

The Rams next drive ended with Grubb stopping Cole Dehaven on A fourth and three try. The quarter ended a couple of minutes later with the Bearcats up fourteen points and with Uncle Mo on their side.  Cooper would find Beau Blankenship over the middle for A gain of 23-yards. The 9-play, 68-yard drive ended with Grubb plowing in from 2-yards out to make this A 28-7 game.  With 8:13 Cooper would get A pick-six to make this A 28-7 game. A couple of plays earlier he had just miss A pick-six. After the game I said to him that was a sweet pick six and he said “thanks”, then I said you just missed one before that and he said “yep”. The games last score came on A 1-yard run from Freshman Dom Chambers to give us our final score 42-7. Shawn Stewart would recover the kickoff for the Bearcats for the games last big play.
