Last night I went right back to Cincinnati to watch Goshen battle Hughes in A division three playoff game. This was my first time seeing Goshen and the first time seeing Hughes in three or four years. I first want to commend the P.A. guy on A job well done. He always called the player’s number and name along with the player or player’s name and number making the tackle and always stated where the ball was. Plus he gave me the rosters of both teams.

Things started off with A band on the opening kickoff. Keyeontrez De Vaughn took the ball close to his 15-yard line and did not stop running until he had reached the Warriors 42. The Big Red converted A fourth and seven, on A Marvin Good to Keyshawn Barber pass. On the next play of the drive, De Vaughn broke off A 29-yard touchdown run, Good would hit  Will Giden on the two-point conversion to give us the 8-0 score, with 10:23 left in the quarter.

The Big Red defense would roar loudly when Seth Anderson was stopped 1-yard short on A fourth and six try.  On the ensuing drive, Hughes would get A 32-yard pass from Good to Amaru Lindsey to set up A first and goal, from the 6-yard line. De Vaughn would put the ball on the turf on the next play and making the recovery for the Warriors was Trevor Adams. Adams would go on to have a stellar game as he caused problems for the Big Red on both sides of the ball.

Adams would haul in A pass from Jack Webster picking up 37yards before he was dragged down, with A little over three minutes left on the clock. Tre Mowry would take the handoff then he broke A tackle with A nice twist and turn move to pick up 8-yards and move the chains. Webster would hit Ashton Harris for 23-yards and another Warrior first down. Seth Anderson would be crushed by Montrell Parks on the Hughes 9-yard line.

Just:47 seconds into the 2nd quarter facing A fourth and five, the Warriors called on Andeson, who was stopped by A flock of Hughes players, at the 2-yard line to keep the shutout alive. At the 10:26 mark, it appeared Adams sacked Good in the end zone but after the zebras huddled together they marked the ball on the 4-yard line. A safety would be called when Hughes was called for holding on A punt play, where the ball only traveled 7-yards. We now had ourselves A 8-2 ball games, with 9:28 left in the half.

Webster would scramble to A 8-yard gain after he could not find anyone open on the play. From there Adams totaled 17-yards on a nice run after the catch. Webster ended the 7-play, 36 drive with A 2-yard touchdown run. Tracker Newberry made good on the P.A.T. to make the score 9-8, with 7’03 left in the half.

Adams would sack Good to force the Big Red into A fourth and fourteen on their own 15-yard line. Without hesitation, the Big Red elected to go for it and that decision looked to be A great one, after Good hit Barber for A 85-yard score, but A late flag was thrown, with the result being A block in the back call against Hughes. I talked to assistant coach Roger Horton after the game and said to him it looked like that 85-yard touchdown being called back seemed to be the beginning of the end for you guys. He did not agree o disagree. Another short Big Red punt, this one would go just 14-yards and set the WWarriors up 22-yards from pay dirt, with 5:30 left in the half. It would take the Warriors four plays to score with Tre Mowry going the final 7-yards. With the P.A.T. the scoreboard read 16-8 Warriors.

Showing some life the Big Red offense would get A 42-yard pass from Good to Gilden, then Good hit Barber for A 33-yard score to make this A 16-14 game, with 3:06 left in the half. On their next drive, the Warriors got things started with A 24-yard run from Webster. :16 seconds later Anderson scored from 34-yards out to make this A 23-14 game. The Warriors were not finished scoring in the halfWebster hit Ashton Harris for 16 yards then for 11 to set up A 31-yard field goal from Newberry, to make the halftime score 26-14.

The third quarter would see both teams go on time-consuming without any points being scored. Two plays stuck out to me during this time. First Eric Eickenhorst sacked Good to force the Big Red into A Fourth and fifteen, that they did not convert because Good was pressured by Logan Levins with an incomplete being the result.

The Warriors would eat up a lot of clock on A 10-play, 65-yard drive that ended on A 1-yard run by Webster, Webster then hit Anderson on the two-point conversion try to make this A 34-14 game. The last points of this one came off of the foot of Newberry, who nailed A 36-yard field goal to make this A 37-14 game. The Warriors defense would make their last stand when Mowry got to Trammel Stephens for A 5-yard loss.
