Yesterday night my football travels took me to Covington, Ohio to watch the Buccaneers battle the Minster Wildcats to cap off what had been A difficult 2020 football season. The first thing I want to say is the P.A. Announcer for Covington might have been the best I have heard this season. He always gave, as I think every P.A. guy should the number and name of the players, called out if it was A pass or A run. Had he called out the yardage I would have to put him in the company of the guy at Bellaire. Rosters come from Digital Scout. If names are incorrect blame them.

Alex Frimel would get things going for the Wildcats defense when he busted into the Buccaneers backfield and dropped the runner for A 2-yard loss. The Covington drive would continue after Jensen Wagoner converted A fourth and one, with A 5-yard gain. In all the drive would total just 16-yards as the Wildcats defense stuffed anything more from happening.

The Covington defense would get their first big play when Bryce Staudt stuffed   #2 Austin Wellman for A tiny loss. Then r Connor Sindelir stuffed Wellman for A 5-yard loss.  The Wildcats offensive line must have taken in very personal because they responed by opening A nice hole for Johhny Nixon that allowed him to pick up 17-yards, then they repeated their preformance to get Wellman in the end zone for A 5-yard touchdown run. Nixon would complete A pass to #24 (NOT ON THE ROSTER) to make the score 8-0, with 3:01 left in the opening stnza.

The Buccaneers responded in A huge way with Mason Saunders galloping 58-yards for the score, then Jensen Wagoner found Tyler Owens for two locking this one up at eight, with 1’24 left on the clock. The Bucceneers defense would quickly allow the Wildcats to jump back out in from with Nixon throwing A perfect 58-yard strike to Chace Couse. Another two-point coversion tried was successful with Nixon running it in making this A 16-8 game.

The Wildcats offense got A nice 19-yard run from Wellman early in the 2nd quarter but A pick later by Jakob Hamilton in the end zone ended the threat. The Buccaneers got another fourth down conversion run from Wagoner with 15-yards being tacked on after A flad was thrown on the Wildcats defense. Wagoner looked to have scored on A long run but as he was going into scoring heaven he fumble the ball and jumping on it for the Wildcats was Couse.

After shutting the Wildcats offense down the Buccaneers got A giagantic break when the punt by #24 went just four yards. From there Wagoner found Hamilton for 13-yards on A 3rd and ten situtation. Grant Babylon the starting Center for the Bucceneers lined up deep in the backfield took the handoff and plowed in for the 3-yard score. He was stopped just short on the two-point try leaving this A 16-14 game with 16.1 seconds left in the half.

The third quarter was A defensive slugfest with both teams making the offenses look like they did not belong on the field. Wagoner would taste dirt when he was hit for a 2-yard loss by Wellman.  Nixon would fare no better when he Connor Sindelir put him down for A loss of three. The Buccaneers defensive line would get credit for the next sack on Nixon.  Eli Rindler batted A Wagoner pass down to keep the defensive theme going.  Wagoner tried his luck with the passing game only to have the pass picked off by Couse. The quarter came to A close when Wagoner found his way to A 71-yard gain with A nice run.

After getting the run to get them close to what would have been the winning score the Buccaneers fell apart. Wagoner would be sacked by James Boehnlein. In all the Buccaneers offense would lose 11-yards after the longrun. With 6:42 left in the game Nixon would take A Lawrence Taylor like hit by Sindelir that caused the ball to drop to the grass where it was recovered by Owens of the Buccaneers. The Buccaneers sufffered a sack when Wellman got to Wagoner to ake matters worse A penalty was called on the offense. From there neither team

The final 6:30 seconds of this one would basically be owned by the Wildcats running the quarterback and runningback up the middle to eat up clock to secure their 16-14 win.
