Last night I made my first ever trip to Mifflin high school to watch the Punchers do battle with the Northland Vikings. This would be my third time seeing the Vikings play and my first time in years seeing the punchers. Overall I have to say the stadium at Mifflin is as good as any I have been to this season, as far as the Columbus City League goes and the fans, on the home side that I spoke to was very friendly.  Before I get to the game I wanted to say that the stadium was well lit and it was A grass field.

The Vikings gave the ball away when A bad snap went over the head of Isaiah Jackson and making the recovery just 4-yards from pay dirt was Tayvaughn Woods. The Punchers needed two-plays to light up the scoreboard, with Tyler Macklin doing the honors. On the two-point conversion try Macklin slipped and was touch down by Gentry Ross leaving this A 6-0 game.

The Punchers defense landed A haymaker when Maurice Carreker stopped Amir Brown for a loss of two yards. The Vikings offense would recover nicely by ending their 4-play, 25-yard drive with A Jackson to Shemar Watson 25-yard touchdown pass to make this A 6-6 game. Brown converted the two-point try to make the score 8-6, with 5:21 left in the quarter. On the ensuing kickoff, Elijah Lee would go 70 yards for the score. Tyquez Terry was stopped by Rayvon Ivery and Ross to keep this A 12-8 score.

Tyler Marchio would make the games next big play when he got to Jackson holding the slippery running quarterback to just A 1-yard gain. It appeared that Isaiah Jackson had recovered A fumble by the Punchers Lee but A penalty was called to take that away. After the Vikings offense finally got back on the field, they were quickly forced into a punting situation by the Punchers defense. Watson lined up in punt formation but he passed the ball instead of kicking it, with the result being A 30-yard gain when Braylon Nowlin made A nice catch and run. The six-play, 48-yard drive ended with A 11-yard scoring run by Jackson, then A two-point conversion run by Ivery to make the score 16-12 Vikings.

Northland would get A nice play from Ivery, who tackled Macklin for A 4-yard loss, that was followed by A bloc punt by Mandione Laya Ngaya giving the Viking A first and ten at the Punchers 16-yard line. The Vikings would go up 22-12 when Jackson found Rob Dorsey for the 16-yard score, with 7:05 left in the half. Just:59 seconds later Darrian Mahan picked off A Macklin pass and made A nice little return, but two flags were thrown on the play, with the end result giving the Punchers the ball back and A first down. Macklin would find 15-yards when he sprinted to his right on A nice quarterback run. The Vikings defense recovered with #50 getting to  Maurice Carreker for a loss of two. Mifflin appeared to get a nice 28-yard touchdown catch by Keith McGee but the refs said no catch because the ball hit the ground.

The Vikings would pull off another fake punt when Watson ran for 12-yards to pick up the first down, with 2:52 left in the half. Jackson would fumble the ball on the 50, after the fake punt, and making the recovery for the Puncher was Karaou Camara. Macklin hit Daniel Oyelana for 22-yards down to the Vikings 9-yard line. The drive came to a screeching halt when Dorsey picked off A Macklin pass.

The teams traded turnover in the third, with Macklin being picked off by Aven Garrett then:07 seconds later the Vikings gave the ball back when the snap went over Jackson’s head, and picking it up for the Punchers was Sincere Jaye. The Punchers would the get A 17-yard gain by Macklin, followed by A 40-yard catch by Tyker Marchio. The drive ended as quickly as it started when Darrian Mahan picked Macklin off.  The Vikings offense could not get anything going though and quickly punted the ball back to the Punchers.  The quarter came to A close with Macklin getting sacked by Jaylen Broadus and #74.

The fourth quarter would see the Vikings registering three more sacks, with Ross teaming up with #50 for the first. Ivery teamed up with Broadus for the second one and the third was done by Broadus and Ngaya. For the Punchers, they got A nice catch by Elijah Lee and on the games, last play Tyquez Terry went 40-yard for the score to give us our 28-18 final.
