Last night I made my way back to Brookville, Ohio to watch the Thursday Night Lights game involving Brookville and Monroe. Brookville always seems to have a large crowd on the home side and this again was the case last night. Making the atmosphere even better on this evening was the fact that Monroe also brought a large crowd with them.
I am using Hudl.com for the Monroe roster and digitalscout.com for the Brookville roster.
Just :47 seconds into the game Sadler Henson from Brookville (6-1) would pounce on a Monroe (0-7) fumble to put the dangerous running offense on the field and bring the large home crowd to its feet. The Monroe defense would stand tall for the first three plays of the ensuing Blue Devils drive, then on the fourth down and three, then the defense would rise to a giant level when they stopped Jack Meyers short of the first down marker to put their own offense back on the field. The defense had ruled the nest for the entire first quarter, but then with 3:53 facing fourth and eight Brookville would call a pass play, with the end result being a 17 yard touchdown by AJ Eller to Daniel Dominique. Jakob Wissinger nailed the PAT to make this a 7-0 game.

Connor Michael would pick up 13 yards to the Monroe 1 yard line to set up the Blue Devils with a first and goal, with 11:49 left in the half. On the next play Bobby Borneman would stop Eller for a 2 yard loss. The Blue Devils would would make this with a 14-0 game, on a Connor Michael 1 yard plunge and the PAT by Wissinger, with 10:11 showing on the clock. The Hornets would get a 67 yard touchdown run from Tyler Tracey, who did his best Bo Jackson impression as he easily outran the Blue Devils defense. The PAT by Brayden Singleton made this a 14-7 game, at the 9:51 mark. The Blue Devils would put the ball on the ground and making the recovery for the Hornets was Nick Voutsas with 5:31 left in the half. Te’Jean Rice would pick up 17 yards to give the Hornets a first and goal at the three yard line. Collin Deaton would take it from there and waltz in to bring the Hornets to within a point. The PAT off of the foot of Singleton locked this one up at fourteen, with 3:03 left in the half. The Blue Devils would respond with a 65 yard 8 play drive, with AJ Eller hitting Dominique for a 26 yard score. The PAT would give the Blue Devils the 21-14 lead. Dominique, in this game always seemed to be opened and if the Blue Devils had wanted he could have had a gigantic game. The kid showed soft hands and a knack for being a bull as far as being taken down.

Dominique would be showcased again early in the third, when he pulled in a 18 yard catch to move the chains again. Just when it appeared that the Blue Devils were going to easily put more points on the board, they put the ball on the ground again and making the recovery for the Hornets was Voutsas on his own 11 yard line. This time the Blue would make fast work of the Hornets offense and get off the field, after just four plays. On the ensuing drive the Blue Devils used a Eller to Dylan Streck to set up a 27 yard field goal by Wissinger to make this a 24-14 game.

Monroe would start the final frame by converting a fourth and one, on a Tyler Tracey run. Chase Dyer would make a very nice opened field tackle on Rice to hold the talented back to only a 2 yard gain. Not to be out done Brennon Moore would stop #6 Alex Pitsch for a one loss showing that the Brookfield defense was fired up and ready to get off of the field. The Hornets would get a two yard gain by Collin Deaton, who was stopped by Chase Dyer to bring up a 4th and seven. Down by ten, with 9:11 left the Hornets had little choice but to go for it and that decision was made good when Deaton went on a 21 yard run. Deaton is listed as a WREC on the Maxpreps roster showed very good running ability most of the game and with 8:59 left in the game he would again show that off again by taking the ball to the one. The 13 play, 68 yard drive ended on a 1 yard run by, you guessed it Deaton. The PAT made this a 24-21 yard game, with 8:46 left. Brookville would respond with a 14 play, 66 yard drive that took over 7:00 minutes off of the clock. The drive ended with a 3 yard run by Jack Meyers. After the PAT the score was 31-21 and that would be the way this highly contested contest ended.
