Last Meeting: Seton Hill 14 @ Bloomsburg 17
Seton Hill defeated Bloomsburg Saturday night in a hard fought PSAC crossover game. The game was very entertaining but very sloppy. Their was a total of 8 turnovers and 14 penalties. The Griffins outplayed the Huskies but needed a last minute defensive stop to secure the victory.
Bloomsburg got the ball first, ran five plays and punted. The Griffins put together a 55 yard drive that took just over five minutes off the clock on their first possession. The drive ended when senior Quarterback Chris Jones scramble on fourth and six from the Huskies 30 came up short. Bloomsburg’s next drive lasted three plays and ended with a sack that knocked starting quarterback Logan Leiby out of the game. Once again the Griffins drove into Husky territory. This drive ended with a missed 23 yard field goal. The quarter ended with the Griffins outplaying the Husky but tied at zero.
Bloomsburg had another three and out and punted to start the second. The Griffins would then drive 43 yards for the games first score. Junior back JaiQuawn McGriff scored from four yards out and the Griffins led 7-0.
Bloomsburg was forced to punt again on their next possession. The field position battle swung in the Huskies favor when Chris Monaco picked off a Chris Jones pass. Bloomsburg’s best offensive plays came on the next two possessions. The play was high punts inside the Griffins twenty. The Griffins fumbled both giving the Huskies great field position. The first was recovered at the 12. Two plays later backup quarterback David LePoidevin hit an uncovered John Ayres for a 14 yard touchdown. The game was tied 7-7.
The second recovery was at the Griffin six with 22.5 seconds to go in the half.
The Huskies out of time outs rolled the dice and tried for the touchdown. LePoidevin was sacked and time ran out.
The third quarter saw both teams intercepted on their first two possessions. The second Griffins interception by Cartier Gary gave Seton Hill the ball inside the Huskies ten. Bloomsburg defense held up and Luke Hauger kicked the first of his two field goals.
The third quarter ended with Seton Hill leading 10-7. Bloomsburg then drove into Griffins territory to start the fourth quarter, but it was ended by a sack. The Griffins drove 61 yards on their next drive taking over five minutes off the clock. Most of the yardage came from Logan Wiland on the ground. The Huskies stopped the Griffins on a fourth and two from their 28. Two plays later third string quarterback Ben Ries fumbled while scrambling. The Griffins took another three minutes off the clock driving 21 yards to set up another Hauger field goal.
Bloomsburg had one last chance after Ries completed a 45 yard pass to Malik Langley. But another sack on fourth down ended the Huskies drive and hopes. The final: Seton Hill 13 Bloomsburg 7.
The Griffins out gained the Huskies 350 to 165.
