My plans were to drive two hours north and catch the Mogadore Field at Lodi Cloverleaf game, but there was a family situation, so I had to stay local and catch the Licking Heights at Newark Catholic game. The Field/ Cloverleaf game ended with Cloverleaf winning by three ( 35-32). My game also ended in a three point difference, with Newark Catholic defeating Licking Heights (24-21). This would be the first victory over the Hornets for the Green Wave since 2005. Since renewing the series back in 2014 the Green Wave had been dominated by the Hornets.

Newark Catholic opened the scoring in this one, with 6:52 left in the opening quarter, with the score coming on a Brandon Buchanan 4 yard run off of a jet sweep. Ryan Auer was true on his PAT to give the Green Wave a 7-0 lead. The drive took 11 plays, went for 62 yards, with Matt Carlisle hitting all three of his passes. The Green Wave dominated the opening quarter, but only had the seven point lead as the quarter came to a close. Before it did the Green Wave got in a 10 play, 62 yard drive that ended with a missed 21 yard field goal.

A 14 yard run by Noah Coultas moved the chains for Licking Heights, with 11:36 left in the half. The drive ended after 10 plays on a missed 35 yard field goal attempt by Drew Kingery with 5:53 left. After getting the ball right back the Hornets got a short catch from Jordan Jackson.who turned it into a 63 yard score, that locked this game up, after the PAT. The last 47.9 seconds of the half brought two scores, one from each team. The Green Wave would go up 10-7, on a 31 yard field goal from Auer. The Hornets would take a 14-10 lead when Cody Wilson acted like Walter Payton and scored from 16 yards out.

In the third Newark Catholic would get a 16 yard gain from Kyle Langenbrunner, then a 19 yard run from Carlisle to get the ball down to the Licking Heights 24 yard line. The 10 play, 80 yard drive ended with Drew Hess scoring on a 4 yard run. The PAT gave the Green Wave the 17-14 lead, with 3:35 left. The Hornets had a solid drive going, but Brandon Buchanan would pick off a Coultas pass to end it.

The fourth quarter would bring two scores with it and once again it would be one for each team. The Green Wave put this game away, with a 14 yard touchdown pass from Carlisle to Derek Hawk, with the point after the scoreboard read 24-14 Newark Catholic. The touchdown was set up by a 13 yard Carlisle run. Brendan Sheehan would sack Coultas, who simply overcame the sack a short time later by finding Kevin Carter a 36 yard touchdown, while facing a 4th and twelve. The Hornets would get the ball back late in the game, after holding the Green Wave on down, but they were able to do nothing on the drive that ended as did the game on a sack by Nate (Big Dog) Williams.
