This was a 7-0 contest with South Laurel leading 7-0 with seconds left in the opening half, when Boyd County who must have had less than 50 yards had the ball and enough time to run one play. With most of their plays being runs to their right, the medium size crowd was ready to head to the concession stands as they all expected the same thing and for the most part they got what they expected but the result was a 50 yard run for a touchdown by Dayne Lawson to make this a one point one. The Lions converted a two point play to take the 8-7 lead into the half.

In the fourth quarter Daterrion Brigance caught a short pass and then plowed his way in for the score. A two point conversion pass to a wide opened Treaton Napier gave the Cardinals a 15-8 lead. They would add a final score on a three yard run by Brigance to make this a 21-8 game.

For the young Lions it was a case of the defense not getting much help from the defense, who for the most part ran to their right almost the entire game and then punt the ball away. For the Cardinals their big offensive line did not take advantage of their size, making things very hard for what should be a very solid ground and pound game.
