When the 2019 football schedule came out, I went right to the Thursday night games around the state and had this game circled. My reasoning was one, I had wanted to see a game at Northridge stadium for a long time and have wanted to see Waynesville since kicker Tim Williams went from there to Ohio State back in 1990. Last night the wait finally ended and I got to see a very competitive defensive game, that seen Waynesville leading by a single point with 3:26 left.

The first quarter seem to fly by with neither team able to do anything on offense. Jamel Crusoe would make the biggest play of the quarter, when he sacked Jake Amburgy for a short loss, with 8:03 showing on the clock. From there the clock would continue to run without any points being scored. In the second quarter Amburgy would lead his team on a 14 play, 59 yard drive with all of the plays being run plays, with the final one being a 1 yard quarterback sneak for a touchdown by Amburgy. Sara O’Connor just missed the PAT leaving this a 6-0 game, with 7:08 left in the half. The polar Bears would get another sack on Amburgy, this one by Kenny Page with 2:29 left in the half as defense continued to rule the nest. The teams would head into the locker rooms, with the Spartans maintaining their six point lead. The Spartans would unofficially run 26 plays and total 39 yards, while the Polar Bears ran 27 plays gaining 105 yards.

The Spartans would see their lead grow to 9-0 on a 33 yard field goal by Elijah St. Pierre, with 6:38 left in the third quarter. The drive total 9 plays and totaled 55 yards. The Spartans overcame a holding penalty after a long run from Seth Bloom. On the ensuing kickoff Kavonte Turpin fielded the line drive kick near his own 45 yard line and dashed all the way to the Spartans three. It would take 5 plays to go 3 yards needed to get the score. The Polar Bears would have a flag thrown on them and then overcome two incompletions, before Shawn Shehee raced in from 8 yards out, then a 2-point run conversion by Darryl Story Jr. would make this a 9-8 game, with 5:19 left in the quarter. The Polar Bears defense got two more nice plays before the quarter ended. The first came from #52 (NOT ON ANY ROSTER I FOUND ONLINE) who knocked a pass down to keep the momentum on the defensive side of the ball and the last play came when #3 (NOT ON ANY ROSTER I FOUND ONLINE) sacked Amburgy.

The final would see two nice defensive plays and two scores. The first defensive play came when Caleb Lamb stopped Darryl Story Jr for a 4 yard loss, and then Matthew Moon got to Spartans ball carrier Seth Bloom for a loss of four. Both scores came from the Spartans, with the first coming on a 3 yard run from Hunter Fillmore and the 2nd one by Brayden Dietz on a nice powerful 13 yard run. O’Connor nailed both PAT to give us a 23-8 final score.
