Parma Heights Holy Name 42 North Olmsted 42-20

The nightcap of my double-header took me to North Royalton, Ohio for the first time to watch the battle between Parma Heights Holy Name and North Olmsted. Both teams came in standing at 0-4 in desperate need of a win. Holy Name’s closest game was a loss to rival Padua Franciscan (21-9) while the closest game that North Olmsted had played in this season was a 17-point loss to Midview.

The opening quarter flew by with just two plays sticking out. Jacob Holtz would get to Andrew Cole for a five-yard loss showing early that the North Olmsted defense was fired up. Tommy Horsfall would hook up with Brady Haug for a 15-yard North Olmsted first down.

The second quarter was nothing like the first as both teams seemed to have the offense wake up while the defense took naps. Cole would get things going for the Green Wave when he connected with Collin Doskocz for a 38-yard catch on a play that found Doskocz wide-open. The nine-play sixty-six drive came to a climax on a Cole to Nicholas Nemeth four-yard touchdown pass. Chase Jozity was true on the point after kick making this a 7-0 game with 9:00 left in the half.

The Eagles would take six plays to tie this one up with Horsfall finding Haug for the 27-yard touchdown followed by the point-after kick from Franklin Batres-Aguilar. The drive would total 66 yards and showed how dangerous Haug could be.

The Eagles defense was strong on the next drive with Naim Mahmoud picking up a sack on Cole. Once the Eagels offense took the field again Haug would catch two balls for a total of 40 yards including a 27-yard touchdown to make this a 14-7 game. This would become a 20-7 Eagle lead when  Michael Passafiume scored on a 2-yard run. The Eagles were trying to go up 27-7 but an 83-yard pick-six by William Dix Jr. changed that making this a 20-14 game as the teams headed to the locker rooms.

The Green Wave would get a 13-yard catch from Doskocz followed by a 15-yard catch by Xavier Rodriguez that helped set up an 8-yard touchdown run by Dix Jr. to make this a 21-20 game. On the ensuing kickoff, the game went awry for the Eagles when Zechariah Turner fell on the football to put the Green Wave right back on the field. The Green Wave would go 38 yards on 5-plays to make this a 28-20 game. The score came when Cole fumbled the ball that trickled into the endzone where Jawan Bryandt fell on it.

Brayden Pavlus made a catch for the Eagles but he coughed the ball up where Aiden Butler recovered it putting the Green Wave offense back on the field, with 4:05 left in the one-sided third quarter. Cole would end the 7-play, 51-yard drive with a 7-yard touchdown run to put the Green Wave up 35-20 as we headed to the final stanza.

RaShaun Edgerson would get the quarter started with a pick for the Green Wave. Cole would find Bryant for the final Green Wave score a 21-yard pass making this a 42-20 game. A Lawrence Stanley interception set up the Eagles last score which came on a 4-yard pitch to Haug who ran in from 5 yards out to give us a 42-26 final.

I have to say the PA System at North Royalton has been the best I have heard at any high school football game at any state I have been to and the announcer was pretty good as he always told you the names of the players directly involved in the play and the distance the play went for.
