This is my first 2022 player interview and I am happy to kick things off with a player I have watched many times in the past.

Name: Rayray Pettigrew

School: Bellaire

Position: Defensive Back/Wide Receiver

You play on both sides of the ball for Bellaire. Which side do you enjoy playing more? Please let us know why.

I love both sides of the game of football, but you know what they say: defense wins champions.

Do you feel it is an advantage for the team to play all of its home games on a Saturday afternoon?

I would say we have an advantage because we play more on those nice sunny days than on Friday nights, which is very different.

As a team, what must you guys do to improve on last season?

So looking at last year, we were really good but couldn’t score when we should’ve, so I say put points on the scoreboard.

Looking at yourself, what are the two biggest things you need to improve on, not only to improve your game but to get the college scouts looking at you more than you have been?

I can definitely make more plays by reading the offense and improving my catching abilities.

Other than Martins Ferry, who is the one team you always want to beat?

After Martin Ferry, looking at our schedule, Shadyside is always the team we want to beat.

Why should your name be called by your coach when the game is on the line?

I’ve been in tough situations before, and I always come up big in close calls.

Who is the one team you have not tasted victory over that you really want to beat this season?

Definitely St. Clairsville. We haven’t beaten them in a while, and we will put them to the test this year.

How important is it for you to earn a spot on one or two of the All-Star teams after the season is over?

As a kid, I always dreamed of being a decent enough player to have the opportunity to play in an all-star game. It would mean a lot to be able to play in any all-star game.

Have you watched any of the USFL games?

I have not had the chance to watch any USFL games yet.

What is your favorite class?

English is my favorite language.
