The Kiski School Cougars, off of a decisive road win at the Peddie School last week, traveled to Philadelphia, PA to take on perennially formidable Inter-AC Conference power the William Penn Charter School Quakers. Penn Charter had taken last season’s contest, 45-28 in Philadelphia.

The game was tightly contested in the first half, with each team trading short possessions. Kiski would consistently punt and stop Penn Charter to create turnovers on downs. 2027 D1 LB recruit Levi Porter (Indiana, PA) would set the tone for the game early, laying a vicous hit on a PC running back in the opening drive, and then tackling PC QB Nate Harman for a TFL and turnover on downs.

Kiski was very methodical, switching to experienced SR QB Machael Armstrong (Angola, IN) and going to a run heavy set featuring at times three running backs in the backfield.

The first quarter, and most of the second quarter, transpired with back-and-forth ball movement and punts. Finally, Penn Charter would break through on a 60-yard drive, culminating in a 9-yard TD pass from QB Nate Harman to TE Tom McGlinchy. Kicker S. Albeck converted the extra point to put Penn Charter up 7-0.  Kiski would answer with their own drive, ending in a 44-yard field goal by Lewin Tauberschmidt, pulling Kiski to within 7-3 at the half.

In the 3rd quarter, Kiski would find a groove and move the ball. Elan McCrorey (Plainsboro, NJ) would contribute a drive-stopping interception, turning the ball back for Kiski. QB Mac Armstrong would drop back from his own 25 and drop a beautiful ball, in stride, into McCrorey’s hands or a 75 yard TD pass. Kiski would miss the extra point, and would go up 9-7.

Penn Charter would put another drive together in the 3rd quarter, when QB Nate Hartman would score on a run from 3 yards out. Penn Charter would miss the extra point, leaving he score at Penn Charter 13, Kiski 9.

Kiski’s defense would dominate the rest of the 3rd and all of the 4th quarter. Kiski would capitalize on a short field early in the 4th quarter, when Armstrong would hit senior WR Noa Seyi Onobiono (France) for his fourth TD reception of the season. Penn Charter would block the Tauberschmidt extra point attempt, turning the score to Kiski’s advantage, 15-13. Kiski would snuff out Penn Charter’s last opportunity when CB Elan McCrorey jumped a pass and picked it off, then raced 60 yards to the end zone with under a minute to play. Tauberschmidt would convert the extra point and then Kiski would close the game out for the win, 22-13.

Armstrong would finish 9 of 16 passing for 179 yards and 2 TDs. Kiski would run for 118 yards. Elan McCrorey would finish with 2 Interceptions on the day, including one for a TD, as well as 2receptions for 93 yards and a TD.

The win improves Kiski’s record to a 3-2, while Penn Charter fell to 2-3. The Cougars will travel to Wilkes-Barre, PA to take on 1-2 Wyoming Seminary next Saturday.
