The Pirates came into this game (0-1) trying to avoid another 0-2 start to the season. The Colonels also trying to avoid being (0-2) on the young season. In watching the teams warm up I got the feeling the Pirates were in a nasty mood and they were about to unleash their aggression on a speedy Colones squad, who looked very good during their warmup.

Belfry showed quickly that their ground and pound high scoring offense was ready for all of the Bourbon Couty speed when Ace Caudill flashed some speed of his own with a seventeen-yard gain. The seven-play, fifty-six-yard drive ended on a short touchdown run from Caden Woolum after Aiden Burke got the snap down allowing Rylan Rash to make good on his point after kick we had ourselves a 7-0 game, with 7:39 left in the fast-moving opening quarter.

The Pirates offense went to work on their next scoring drive with Woolum taking off on a twenty-three-yard run. Bourbon County’s defense seemed to be lost as far as who had the ball and which way they were going. The Pirates run their version of the Wing-T as any team I have watched run it. The ten-play, seventy-eight-yard drive came to a close with Steven Banks plowing in from one yard out to put the home team up 14-0.

Bourbon County would get a nice twenty-four-yard catch from Cam’ron Goodwin but that was pretty much all the Pirates defense would give up on the drive. A forty-five-yard run from Woolum and a nineteen-yard run from Dre’ Young gave the Pirates the ball on the Bourbon County one-yard line where Chase Varney stepped into the endzone to make this a 21-0 game, with 6:23 left in the half.

Alex Long would get an interception for the Pirates putting their offense back on the field where they wasted little time finding paydirt. They needed just three plays to go twenty-four yards with Chase Varney doing the honors giving us the 28-0 score, with 4:46 left in the half. The Colonels would end the half on a high note with their last drive ending in points when Clay Estes scrambled for the eleven-yard touchdown to give us the halftime score of 28-6. Cam Santiago kept the momentum with the Colones when he made an interception right before the half ended.

Belfry added two more touchdowns in the third quarter with Young sprinting in from fifty-two yards out and then again from one yard out. They also would get a pick from Cayden Varney along with a nasty twenty-seven-yard run from Caudill. The final frame would see Estes score on a two-yard run and then convert a two-point pass making the final score 42-14.
